Winter trip with a three-year-old?

As long as I was carrying the kid, there were more choices for trips; now sometimes I just run out of good ideas when looking for short enough but still nice (scenic) family outings - especially now when there's deep snow everywhere. (Not even mentioning the fog in the valley...) One kid is nearly three years old and walks nicely if in the mood, the other just over a year (in the backpack). Please recommend some ideas for a trip or walk - around Ljubljana or wider.

A suitable trip would be to the hut at old Ljubelj. A fairly steep road (gravel actually) leads there. In winter people usually sledge on it and a few days after snowing it's sledded or trodden. Walking takes less than an hour (for an adult). Even the three-year-old niece went up on foot (well, we had to pull her a bit on the sledge) and down she sledged with dad. You need to watch a bit when walking up and hold the edge, sledders can really fly from behind a corner. Otherwise it's a nice trip. Park at former border crossing Ljubelj and look for the road that starts on the right side a little before the tunnel. I think there's also a sign. Regards.

One more thing: if the three-year-old sleds, it must be with parents, because it's on the road and it's not smart to fly off it. Regards.

My parents took us as kids (we were four) to paths Zaplani, Rakitni, Janče, Katarini, Govejku, Rašici etc. Surely you've been there already, for a child what's important is to play in snow or nature. For him the place is not so important. Good luck.

Today or tomorrow could be the best choice: Mengeška koča. The three-year-old might take almost an hour for the path, the little one in the backpack also shouldn't stay longer in this cold. My kids were always satisfied with Mengeška koča, even today now that they've grown a bit. On top there are animals, which are a real attraction for kids. Take old bread or biscuits to feed the goats.

Pokljuka is also interesting in my opinion.

Maybe Kokoš maybe.. Slavnik, Vremščica, Sabotin, Krim, Kurešček, Slivnica... We ended up several times also at the Soča estuary. Now there are lots of birds there, as they flew from the north and most will overwinter there. From Lj it's a bit more than an hour to there. You walk as far as they can. The walk is through the reserve, on flat ground. If you go all the way to the end it's ca 6 km. You can turn back anytime. Maybe also Škocjanski zatok.

Near Ljubljana is Kurešček. Park a few turns below the church and on foot across the meadows, where there are always quite a few parents and kids enjoying winter joys.

I have 3 kids (3,6,9 years), we started taking them along approx at 1 year old, so they were with us e.g. on Peci, Uršlji, Olševi etc. Carrier, on shoulder, kangaroo and a bit on foot. In winter always great with sleds up some valley (parents harnessed) then descent to valley, recommend Logarska path.

A nice path in the snow is also from Prvin, where you park the car in front of hotel UTRIP, the hotel is closed, but on foot head to Čemšeniška planina, the hut on the planina is open in winter on weekends and holidays, excellent service in the hut. Nice regards and safe trip!

We have a son and daughter of similar ages and love to go to sv. Peter and then to Sankaška hut above Begunje. Several approaches. All short and especially well trodden. The safest is from the Krpin ski slope. Second variant from Rodine (more southern side). Children's walking is about 1.5 hours on both variants, but the latter is somewhat more "exposed". Hut I think is open all year. Lots of winter pleasures, especially for the "young ones".
