Today's goal was Oltar, but sinking in snow exhausted me too much. Snow already in Martuljek, lower part hard, towards Akom a bit softer. In the last part to Akom the path is demanding, exposed and steep, without ice axe and crampons no way. From the cirque at Akom it was soon clear I wouldn't get far today. Unpleasant wading 30-40 cm. Could have turned back right away, still pushed to the three larches (new snow or drifted) and got really tired. At three larches sinking a bit less (20 cm).

Yesterday we stepped into this wonderful world of the Za Akom cirque, where you can only admire the beautiful backdrop of mountains rising above it. Words are simply superfluous here, everything is just there, you can only absorb and marvel. How someone could imagine such beauty and hand it over to us for admiration remains a mystery. Remnants of snow you encounter on your path, just right green larches and wonderful colors of flowers were things that additionally enchant at this time.

We didn't go right to the Three Larches. Only close to them, somewhere around 1700 m altitude. That was enough for yesterday, as too much beauty can harmnasmeh. So we'll head to this mountain paradise at least once more and look forward to it happily.
We extended the tour a bit differently though. Started past the lower waterfall to avoid the nasty climb that starts right at the path junction. On return visited the bivouac and met the first hiker of the day there. Also went down to the second waterfall, as usually we only see its beginnings under the cirque. We also looked for the path to Izvir Mrzle vode spring, but the moss was dry at this time. But with this traverse we stepped onto the path winding towards Pod srcem cirque and thus connected both in a way. Really a tour for the soul!

The Three Larches is such a place that's by far the most beautiful when viewed from afar. Access up there, sorry to spoil the romance, is disgusting. Last year I did a loop to Mala Martuljska Ponca and this year a buddy asked if I'd be up for a repeat since he hasn't been. I'm hesitant about the idea, solely because of the section below the Three Larches. Everything else seemed ok to me (well, this year probably snow issue in the gully too), but that part is just insanely ugly and dangerous. So, wonderful world, but I'll have very mixed feelings when heading up there again...

Wonderful tour and great pics. I too can't pass by pic 17 (Three Larches), but a bit differently.
I've been up there already, but approached from the back (over all three Kotle, Na Pečeh and MMP).
Can someone who knows the path from this front side write or even mark on the pic where the easiest approach and descent is.

In my experience the easiest approach to the Larches is in snow, under "normal" snow conditions somewhere end of April or beginning of May, in morning hours when Široka peč still doesn't "send projectiles".

Best dry option shows on ločanka's pic 22, where we stick to the vegetated part of the gully - for ascent, of course. Descent in dry is nasty there too.

gor.nik, read on the first page of this page Juš's report from 11.05.2013 when he talks about memorial plaques (my pic no.25). Indeed we saw a path branching right for that plaque, looked quite followable. Maybe worth trying there as Juš recommends.
