Zasavska koča overnight stay

This weekend I'm planning a trip to the Triglav Lakes with overnight stay at Zasavska hut and return the next day. I have no experience with bivouac overnights yet and given the fairly low temperatures I'm not sure if I have everything I need. Planned equipment: -sleeping bag -spare socks, shirt,...(everything that can get wet) -extra sweater for sleeping -headlamp + spare batteries -some hot water bottle -lots of chocolate, bars,... for quick energy and some homemade sausage for "long shelf life" -thermos of hot tea for evening -stove? this bothers me most - take or not? Hot tea in the morning would surely come in handy, but I don't know how safe it is to cook in that small bivouac? Mainly worried about night cold and amount of food and drink(some spring along the path will probably be frozen), so I'd be happy for any advice or your experiences how you prepare for such trips. Also interested in what the bivouac etiquette is or do I just arrive and find a spot or did I miss something (assume bivouac is always unlocked).

Bivouac at Zasavska hut is very pleasant. Interior feels warm even with snow outside. With proper sleeping bag you'll sleep like a log. One big yes for stove! Nothing beats a tea or soup steaming on a winter morning at 2000m.

Heating bag is completely useless because first it expands capillaries with heat, so consequently unnaturally (body adapted to cold) we lose body heat and later the effect of heat bag cools us more than warms. Another fashion quasi hype marketing. Stove though is worth gold, because now when it freezes up there, no other way to make drinks for survival.

@Brusli When you arrive at bivouac, if you find trash, tidy a bit. Then prepare your bed, no worry about crowding. Stove absolutely yes, nothing beats warm meal and hot tea. Don't forget candle !!! both for light and feel of warmth. Can't imagine how much one candle means in winter bivouac. Next morning, ESSENTIAL, tidy after yourself nicely, fold blankets if any and carefully, really carefully close the door behind. So snow and rain don't damage. Too often happens that sometimes doors not closed enough or even open and inside bivouac snow and ice. Enjoy !!!

Stove definitely YES. Note that night in bivouac now very long and hard to sleep all time. We sometimes did it by going to sleep soon after arrival. When woke up then started cooking. Otherwise by 7-8 you do everything, sleep and wake at midnight and freeze till morning Water plenty on described tour, else melt snow. Cook anything (instant soups, heat some made jote or play super chef with soup, main and dessert). Winter bivouac definitely unforgettable long time not forget. And each experience + for next bivouac. If not alone be considerate to others. Above all close door well when leaving, cuz nothing worse than arrive exhausted in dark to bivouac with door open and 1m snow inside (happened on Dolič winter) or bivouac gone If very cold at night watch your boots or similar don't freeze overnight. Put stuff in sleeping bag overnight to dry.

Slept in several bivouacs, igloo, snow hole, open in bivy bag and sleeping bag. For one night basically no special gear needed, small gas stove handy to make tea or dissolve bouillon cube. Who can't endure one night or day with dry or cold food anyway has no business in winter mountains. That's my opinion based on experience.

I'm curious about overnighting in this hut, I've heard some interesting criticism. Since I'm planning a trip that way, sleeping in this hut regarding the path would be interesting, but other hikers discouraged me from it. LP!

Well, some years ago there were friendly young keepers inside, atmosphere and service were good. But you gotta know that you need to be a bit of an adventurer, since there's not much space, and I don't know how the sanitary facilities are today... I doubt much has changed, someone else will add something... My experience with this hut is positive...

First time I hear something like that, but last year I brought them money up because some forgot to pay hut services and remembered it only in the valley .

By this I don't mean the keepers, least of all, probably hut visitors ... that shoes are taken into rooms because no one dares leave them elsewhere, I can imagine the grayish smells then

Theft can happen in any hut.
