Škofja Loka retirees in the framework of PD Škofja Loka - Thursday section went to explore Banjska plateau and conquered its somehow third peak Zgorelec -876m high. There are two more, one even called Krvavec. The others will be for another time. Where is Banjska plateau actually? Few hikers are taken to this end of somehow hidden Slovenia. Banjska plateau is a marginal Dinaric plateau that lies in western Slovenia between Čepanska valley, lower course of Idrijca river and Soča between Most na Soči and Nova Gorica at heights from 600 to 1071 meters above sea level. Banjščice are in the heart of Banjska plateau, which is the central place of this plateau consisting of as many as 16 hamlets. On the plateau there are abysses, military cemetery. They even have some cheese dairies. How to get there? Well, we started, of course, in Škofja Loka, then on highway towards coast, then towards Nova Gorica, before Solkan bridge to the right. Park in Lohke. Then across wide pastures and soon we spot marked path leading to main peak Zgorelec-876m high. We walk across Sleme ridge-800m, past Kuk transmitter. In forest we meet cute wooden house. The ascent itself is quite steep, rocky. The summit itself is very rocky. Had to be careful on descent because it was a bit frozen. There is a logbox. I didn't look inside, so don't know if there's a stamp. We walked back to village Mrcinje - hike lasted about four hours - walked about 11km. We will return to this area.
