Zingarica / Singerberg

Some photos from today's trip to Žingarica / Singerberg. I started the trail from the parking lot by the cemetery in Podljubelj / Unterloibl, then along forest roads to marked trail 654, along the mentioned trail to the summit.
I descended to Trnje / Dornach.
The marked trail is normally passable, partially somewhat overgrown.
Trail from Podljubelj or Podgora / Unterbergen, which is indicated as marked on some Slovenian maps, from about 7 a.m. onwards due to forestry works, is not passable.
Best, Tadej

After six years, the princess and I went to Žingarica again. Up the right path, direct, we descended around, over the Halbingsattel saddle. Paths are normally passable, no special features. After the tour we drove to Ressnig lake near Borovlje, where we enjoyed swimming in pleasantly warm water for a long time.

If I'm on the path with Tadej, there's always my pictorial depiction of the hike along.

This is a rather little-known peak in the Karavanke so close to the Slovenian-Austrian border. We drive through Ljubelj tunnel and already in the Čepa gorge turn left into the village Slovenji Plajberk-German Windisch Bleiberg. Here under the church in the village on the left side of the road is the parking lot and we park there. Then we go right past the church on the marked path towards our goal. The path is nice, not too steep, well marked - also with signs. We even go past an abandoned lead mine. Up we went over the Albnik saddle-German Halbingsattel. On the large vantage point there's a large cross and here is the summit register. We can walk on the comfortable wide mountain forest road, or detour a bit left to the ridge. In between we see even a take-off site for paragliders. Before the summit a bit of steepness awaits us. The summit itself offers no view, as it's among spruces. Marked with a summit stone. On the way though we get views of both Karavanke and Ture. Back we went over Vranica saddle-German Oreinzasattel. We jumped also to the nearby peak Rabenberg-1465m. Descended to the main road and past Bleibergov graben back from the other side to Plajberk.

We don't like going to Austria much, but afternoon errands in Klagenfurt dictated this time's goal. Not much choice at this end anyway, especially since the Drava in this season often fogs up thickly. The Žingarica appealed to us most, as we hadn't visited it from the north yet. For this we made a circular variant to the greatest possible extent so the path wouldn't drag too much velik nasmeh.

Started in the village Kapla on the Drava and at the last houses found path 654. This mostly leads through forest, in the middle part more through former forest. The wind took its time here and shaved the slopes far around. Everything is cleared, but walking through such blowdown isn't too encouraging.

Soon we reached Žingarica, which is just part of a longer ridge. Doesn't stand out particularly, nor panoramic, but has a cross as usual for peaks around here. Continued straight towards Albnik saddle. In between a panoramic spot with a huge cross, which is visited much more than our peak. At the saddle we started descending into the valley and crossed slopes far to the right. In the hamlet Žingarica we grilled sausage and then only descent to the start followed.

Coordinates of starting point (Kapla on Drava / Kappel an der Drau): 46.5340828N, 14.2499133E
We leave the car by the cemetery, which is also the only public parking in the village.1
The morning path takes us past the old school, which is now an inn.2
Just behind the last houses, the path climbs steeply uphill. Easier and not much longer is continuing along the road.3
Higher up we cross the same road again and climb steeply uphill again. Until the next road crossing...4
Small hamlet of Žingarica, which is not completely abandoned.5
Pelton turbine, probably from some small hydroelectric plant. One is located lower by the stream.6
We are happy about the macadam, but it will be short-lived :)7
At this sign we turn into the forest. The path is marked 654.8
We expected snow, since the summit is not that low.9
Walking through the fallen trees is not very encouraging, but at least it's not icy.10
After a long ascent through the remains of the former forest, we finally reach a somewhat normal path.11
On the ridge, an icy wind immediately blasts us, so we quickly put on extra layers :)12
Žingarica. Judging by the tracks, only one hiker was ahead of us.13
We continue along the ridge. It is easily passable, even the sun greets us :)14
The entire ridge is crisscrossed with forest roads. I don't remember that, but it's true I was here 15 years ago.15
View of the Karavanke and the surprisingly snow-covered valley far below.16
Huge cross at a viewpoint. This one is much more visited than Žingarica.17
We still continue towards the west...18
Turning point, Halningsattel saddle, or Albink locally. We turn downhill into the valley.19
We have seen a lot of these this year, especially in Garda and the Dolomites. There must be a strong reason for the increasing number of such bans.20
In the foreground our village, in the background Celovec.21
A little more and we will skewer the sausage.22
Žingarica, this time in more friendly sun.23
Official data as well...24
It descends quickly and we already see the car too.25
They marked the chapel like this for safety so they don't plow it in winter :)26
We are already at the old school, this time from the other direction. The car is just a few minutes away.27
GPS track of the hiked path. We hiked 16 km and 1200 m of ascent.28
