Žrelo-Ledine

This morning I went to check and climb the new layout of the secured path over Žrelo to Vodine. The cables were damaged every spring, so PD Kranj with its trail markers decided to move the secured path route to the left side of the Žrelo gorge and thus protect it from annual damages. The route now mostly runs along the left side of the gorge. The cables are new. The path has become more demanding and has thus become a real mini ferrata. A helmet and good shoes are self-evident. Climbing gloves are also recommended. To the less experienced I warmly recommend using a safety harness. Right at the start there is a slightly more demanding part. The key part of the ascent is the middle part, which goes over fairly crumbly rock, where there are no proper footholds for the feet. The steps are quite far apart. Here the ascent seemed most demanding to me. I used a safety harness from start to end. Down I went via the Slovenska varovana, which is really fun.
Žrelo-Ledine The view of Ravensko Kočno never disappoints.1
Žrelo-Ledine I've already been to Baba from all approaches.2
Žrelo-Ledine To Žrelo over scree. In spring it's not possible here, because late into spring there's still an icy snowfield.3
Žrelo-Ledine Up we go.4
Žrelo-Ledine Here comes down the secured path to Žrelo from Umika Žrela.5
Žrelo-Ledine We have just arrived.6
Žrelo-Ledine Start of the secured path. You have to pull yourself up anyway.7
Žrelo-Ledine The path is shifted to the left side of the gully.8
Žrelo-Ledine A little zigzag.9
Žrelo-Ledine Continuation.10
Žrelo-Ledine There are pegs too.11
Žrelo-Ledine Now into the wall.12
Žrelo-Ledine Demanding.13
Žrelo-Ledine View back. This is the key part of the path where there are no footholds or pegs.14
Žrelo-Ledine Here it goes towards the top, where we have enough footholds.15
Žrelo-Ledine The view back is quite scary.16
Žrelo-Ledine End.17
Žrelo-Ledine Ahead are Vodine.18
Žrelo-Ledine Below the Češka koča na Spodnjih Ravneh can be seen.19
Žrelo-Ledine Bench on the top of Žrela.20
Žrelo-Ledine Down the Slovenian secured path.21
Žrelo-Ledine The Slovenian one is not too demanding.22
Žrelo-Ledine We really went down the right one.23

Does anyone know how the snowfield before the entrance to Žrelo is? Can one enter without winter gear? nasmeh

Thanks for the answer

On Sunday around 10am I came from the side of Češka koča and it went without, of course with the right dose of caution. But the snow was still quite hard.

Early in the morning the snowfield is hard, I'd say at least an ice axe is highly recommended; during the day or afternoon warm air softens it a bit and it's as grega88 wrote.

When we were returning from Češka koča today around 16:15 there was a proper roar (and it lasted quite a while) above the entrance to Žrelo, as much as we could see more on the right side, where the path from Češka joins the path from the cable car through Žrelo. The rockfall is probably not negligible and others (more competent than me) will assess the passage safety. But I won't go around there anymore this year. And safe steps!
