Kranjski Rak - Gradišče (Velika planina) (via Seliški rob)

Access to starting point:
A) First, we drive to Kamnik, and then we continue driving in the direction of the mountain pass Črnivec. Just a few hundred meters before the mentioned mountain pass we notice signs for Kranjski Rak, which point us sharply left onto a narrow and at first also quite steep road. The road levels out higher up and then brings us to the mountain pass Volovljek, where near the inn Kranjski Rak we also park (parking in front of the inn is allowed only for guests).
B) From Gornji Grad we drive towards Kamnik, then just a few hundred meters after the mountain pass Črnivec we continue right in the direction of Kranjski Rak. Further, we follow the above description.
C) From the Savinjska Valley we first drive to Luče, and then we continue driving towards Kamnik. When we reach the mountain pass Volovljek we park at a suitable spot near the inn Kranjski Rak (parking in front of the inn is allowed only for guests).

Path description:
From the mountain pass Volovljek we continue towards the west on a macadam road in the direction of Velika planina, Jarški dom, Črnuški dom, Domžalski dom and Dom na Kisovcu. The road at first leads along the pasture, and then passes into the forest, where a marked footpath branches off to the left. We continue on the road, which turns a little to the right and at the beginning of the left turn splits into two parts. The right road leads to the former homestead Štajerski Rak (guesthouse Štajerski Rak is located at the mountain pass Volovljek), and we continue on the wider road which leads towards Velika planina, on which we walk a few more minutes, or to the spot where the road makes a sharp left turn. From the mentioned turn straight ahead continues a worse road (in summer time it is necessary to cross the electric shepherd's fence) along which we continue the path. The path ahead moderately descends and after crossing the torrent valley of the stream Brložnica turns right. The path ahead leads us past a slide, and then again turns more to the left, where it leads us below the rocky towers. When the crossing ends we reach a kind of ridge, from which a view opens towards the Dleskovška planota.
At the mentioned spot a marked path from Podvolovljek joins us from the right, and we continue left on the footpath which steeply ascends above the road. Due to erosion and overgrowth the passage is somewhat awkward and especially when wet also slightly dangerous for slipping. The path continues for a short time along the forested ridge and brings us above the previously mentioned rock towers, then temporarily turns a little to the right. In the continuation we ascend through the forest for a few more minutes, then we cross a grazing fence and step onto the lower part of the mountain pasture Marjanine njive. When the forest ends, the until-now poorly trodden path also ends. Up the slope we ascend, on one of the trees we notice a mark, then a little higher we already spot some huts on the mountain pasture, a little to the right also a wooden cross.
We continue past the huts and behind them ascend to the nearby macadam road, where we notice a marked junction with numerous direction signs.
At the junction we leave the road and continue the ascent along a cart track in the direction of Jarški dom, Črnuški dom and Domžalski dom as well as Mala and Gojška planina. At first a nice view still opens towards Kranjska reber and part of Posavsko hribovje, then the path passes into the forest, through which it continues to the spot where a footpath from Kranjski Rak and the path from the parking lot Rakove ravni also join us.
Here we continue straight and just a few meters ahead we step out of the forest onto the lower part of Gojška planina. A short ascent follows, then the path temporarily levels out and brings us to a smaller junction at the watering place for animals. We bypass the watering place on the left side, then go slightly left (right the upper part of Gojška planina) along the ascending footpath. The pleasant and increasingly scenic path ascends across the extensive grazing area, then crosses one of the macadam roads. On the other side of the road the path gradually moderately ascends, then approaches the road which leads towards Jarški dom and Domžalski dom. Before stepping onto the road we continue left, then after some 10 steps of further walking we arrive at Jarški dom.
We bypass the mentioned hut on the left side, then continue the ascent along the wide path which gently ascends through a sparse forest. Already after a few minutes a path to Črnuški dom branches off to the left, and we continue straight and follow the wide path all the way to Domžalski dom na Mali planini.
The path then descends into a small valley, where we again step onto a wide path (almost a road). We continue right and follow the path to a poorly marked path junction, where the path towards the shepherd hut Gradiščkovih branches off to the left. After a short ascent the path brings us to the mentioned settlement, from which we continue along a poorly visible but marked path. The path ahead leads us past numerous benches, moderately upwards along the unvegetated slope. Soon the path brings us between two peaks, where we continue slightly right. In the middle of the ascent we notice the inscription chairlift to the right (left, in the direction of our ascent the shepherd settlement). We continue in the direction of the chairlift along the path which quickly brings us to the summit slope of Velika planina. Here we continue right along the marked path, which after a few steps of ascent brings us to Gradišče.
