Path description:
We continue through the village, then at the crossroads we follow the signs for the lake. The road higher becomes macadam and enters the forest, where it flattens. Some more crossroads follow, and we still follow the signs for the lake; the signs mostly appear in three languages, namely Italian, German, and Slovenian, and here and there only in Italian. The road on which we walk mainly leads towards the east, but when it turns more towards the north, it also begins to descend visibly. A little further on, we leave the road and continue left in the direction of Spodnje Mangartsko jezero (at this sign, instead of the Slovenian inscription, there is an inscription in English). A shorter descent follows, then the forest path continues without major changes in elevation. Further on, we go past Malo jezero / Lago Piccolo and Majceno jezero / Lago Piccolissimo, then we descend to Spodnje Mangartsko jezero.
When we reach the shore of the lake, because of the better view of the surrounding mountains, it is better to continue left, although the right path is somewhat shorter. For a few minutes we walk along the panoramic shore of the lake, then over the bridge, a little below the dam, we cross Jezerski potok. When we step onto the road we go right, then after a few steps from the road even a bit more to the right onto the walking path that leads around the lake. The path further leads us also past the Edelweiss restaurant, then we arrive at the south side of the lake, where there is a junction of several paths.
We continue in the direction of Zgornje Mangartsko jezero, where we first ascend to the right, then the path flattens and at the climbing area turns somewhat to the left. After a shorter flat section, some descent follows and we arrive at Zgornje Mangartsko jezero, from which a nice view opens up onto the mountains that rise steeply above Mangartska dolina.
