Aljažev dom v Vratih - Rž (Tominšek route)

Access to starting point:
We drive to Mojstrana, then follow the signs for the Vrata Valley. We continue on the toll road, which is closed to public traffic in winter, following it to the large parking lot located a few minutes before Aljažev dom v Vratih.

Path description:
From the large parking lot we continue along the road closed to public traffic, arriving in a few minutes at Šlajmerjev dom and shortly afterwards at Aljažev dom v Vratih.
In front of Aljažev dom the path to Škrlatica branches off to the right, but we continue straight in the direction of Triglav, Luknje, Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and numerous other destinations along a wide path that leads us past the chapel into the forest, and further on it is fairly gentle.
We continue past the winter bivouac, and upon leaving the forest we arrive at the famous wedge in Vrata valley dedicated to the fallen partisan mountaineers.
Here we leave the wide gentle path that continues towards the head of the valley and proceed left in the direction of Tominškova pot. We continue through scree into the forest, where we begin ascending on a well-maintained path that is quite steep and aided by wooden steps in some places. After a little more than an hour and a half of steep path the forest begins to thin and we reach the start of the climbing section of the path, where the first fixed protections assist us.
Further on the path becomes increasingly precipitous and exposed to falling rocks, gradually transitioning from the slopes of Rjavčeve glave to the slopes of Begunjski vrh. The climbing section of Tominškova pot mainly leads in a traversing ascent to the right, but a few times we ascend quite steeply upwards with the aid of protections fairly directly.
Above 2000 meters elevation the path gradually becomes less demanding and we join the path leading over Prag, shortly afterwards arriving at Begunjski studenec.
We continue steep ascent, the path technically not demanding in this section, after approximately 15 minutes of further walking we reach the next junction near Kotla.
We continue left in the direction of Staničev dom pod Triglavom (slightly right Triglav and Triglavski dom na Kredarici) and around the Kotel depression on the left side through high mountain karst terrain, the path leads along fissures and dolines, so extra caution is needed especially in fog and snow, otherwise the path is technically not demanding here. Higher we traverse up over a short scree slope, then reach the plateau-like terrain, and with nice views of Triglav and surrounding mountains we ascend to Dom Valentina Staniča.
We continue sharply right in the direction of Triglav and Triglavski dom na Kredarici (left Begunjski vrh, Cmir and Visoka Vrbanova špica, straight dolina Kot, right Rjavina via ridge path and dolina Krma) the path soon turns slightly left and continues southwards towards nearby Rž. Upon reaching the screes below Rž the path turns right and traverses up over the screes, where later a passage opens to the left towards the summit of Rž.
We head towards the mentioned passage, following a faint track. The track, which branches left from the marked path, brings us after a short steep ascent over scree and higher a small gully to the ridge of Rž. Here we continue left and follow the "path" along and occasionally beside the ridge to the summit of Rž.
In the upper part cairns help find the passages, in the lower part they are often toppled due to avalanches.
