Aljažev dom v Vratih - Visoka Vrbanova špica (Tominšek route)

Access to starting point:
We drive to Mojstrana, then follow the signs to Vrata valley. Further on we drive along the toll road, which is closed to public traffic in winter, following it to the large parking lot a few minutes before Aljažev dom in Vrata.

Path description:
From the large parking lot we continue on the road closed to public traffic, arriving in a few minutes at Šlajmerjevo and shortly after at Aljažev dom in Vrata.
Before Aljažev dom the path to Škrlatica branches right; we go straight towards Triglav, Luknje, Pogačnikov dom na Kriških podih and many other destinations on a wide path that leads us past the chapel into the forest, further on quite gentle.
We pass the winter bivouac; leaving the forest we reach the famous memorial in Vrata valley dedicated to fallen partisan mountaineers.
Here we leave the wide gentle path continuing to the valley head and go left towards Tominšek route. We proceed through scree into forest, starting to ascend a well-made path which is quite steep with wooden steps in places. After just over 1.5 hours of steep path the forest thins and we reach the start of the climbing section with first fixed protections.
The path becomes steeper and exposed to falling stones, gradually shifting from slopes of Rjavčeve glave to those of Begunjski vrh. The climbing section of Tominšek route mainly traverses up right, occasionally steeply up with aids.
Above 2000m the path eases and joins the Prag path, soon reaching Begunjski studenec.
We continue steeply up, technically easy; after ~15 min we reach junction near Kotel.
Go left to Staničev dom pod Triglavom (slightly right Triglav and Triglavski dom na Kredarici), skirting Kotel valley left through karst with fissures and dolines requiring caution in fog/snow, otherwise easy. Higher traverse short scree to plateau, ascending with views to Triglav etc. to Dom Valentina Staniča.
From hut left to Begunjski vrh, Visoka Vrbanova špica and Cmir (straight Kot valley, right Krma and Rjavina, sharp right Triglavski dom na Kredarici and Triglav).
Gentle path soon reaches Begunjski preval where path to Vrbanove špice goes right. Scenic easy path to summit of Visoka Vrbanova špica in minutes.
