Access to starting point:
From the border crossing Šentilj we continue driving on the highway towards Gradec / Graz and forward towards Linz and Salzburg. We soon leave highway A9 and continue driving slightly right in the direction of Vienna, proceeding along the expressway S35. Near the settlement Bruck an der Mur, we reach highway S16 and follow it in the direction of Vienna. We leave the mentioned highway at the exit for Mitterdorf, when we reach the roundabout with the old road we continue "straight" (second exit) in the direction of Mariazell, Turnau, Veitsch..., and further we follow the main road which leads us higher to the cottage Pflanzlhütte and the parking lot by the ski slope Brunnalm. Here we continue left on the asphalt road and ascend to the inn Alpengasthof Scheikl, where we park in the parking lot just before or after the inn. The parking lot by the inn is intended for guests.
Path description:
Above the inn, signs for Rotsohlalm direct us straight onto a macadam road (to the right, cottage Graf-Meran-Haus and the peak Hohe Veitsch), which leads into the forest. Through the forest, we ascend gently, continuing from a small crossroad in the direction of the path Mariazellerweg. Further on, we continue ascending diagonally, and when the road turns sharply to the right a little ahead, we proceed left in the middle of the turn onto a rougher road, along which the blazes continue.
For a short time, we follow the cart track, continuing straight from a marked crossing, where the cart track soon turns into a footpath that continues through the forest. In the forest, we cross occasionally steeper slopes, and upon leaving the forest, we first descend slightly near the stream Schallerbach. Here too, at a small crossing, we continue straight (to the left, the path toward the mountain pasture Rotsohlalm - a path that avoids the mountain pasture Schalleralm), then ascend on a slightly steeper path to the mountain pasture Schalleralm, where we notice a shepherd's cottage on the left.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in October 2023.
