Access to starting point:
Highway A2 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee - Graz we leave at the Packsattel exit (from the direction of Graz we take the Mooskirchen exit), and then we follow the road towards the town of Köflach and further towards Judenburg and the Gaberl ski slope. Still in the town of Köflach, we turn slightly left into the settlement of Maria Lankowitz, from where we then follow the signs for the cottage Altes Almhaus, where we park on a gravel parking lot.
Path description:
On the northwestern side of the parking lot, we notice signs for Gaberl, Sattelhaus, and Gleinalm, which direct us onto a cart track that leads into the forest and brings us past an archery range, where we begin descending through the forest; leaving the marked path is prohibited. Lower, we reach a drivable road, along which we continue (left across the road, path E6). A little further, we veer slightly left from the road onto a parallel footpath that is poorly trodden, and shortly after, it temporarily returns to the road. Further on, we walk along a poorly trodden path that, at the wind turbines, joins a rough macadam road, along which we continue past the last wind turbine (in winter, there is a risk of falling ice from the turbine blades), and after a short descent, we return to the drivable road. Along the wider macadam road, we continue to the nearby parking lot by the Gaberl ski slope, and at the end of the parking lot, we carefully cross the main road to reach the Gaberlhaus cottage.
