Access to starting point:
I went to KRVAVEC, namely from the village AMBROŽ POD KRVAVCEM. And let's look at the entire path by car from the direction of Ljubljana. We drive on the highway from Ljubljana towards Gorenjska. At the exit VODICE we leave the highway (from here on I measure the distance) and at the end of the exit at the crossroad we turn right towards Vodice. Then we arrive at the traffic light crossroad (600 meters from the highway exit) and at this crossroad we turn left towards CERKLJE, BRNIK. We drive through the settlement Vodice and arrive at the settlement SPODNJI BRNIK, where we reach another crossroad (5.7 km from the highway exit), where we turn left towards KRANJ, KRVAVEC and after 100 meters of driving, we turn right towards CERKLJE, KRVAVEC (5.8 km from the highway exit). On this path we drive on the main road, namely through SPODNJI BRNIK and arrive in CERKLJE. In this settlement, we reach another crossroad, where we must go towards KRVAVEC (9.1 km from the highway exit). Thus we arrive in the village GRAD, where at the end of the village we must turn right from the main road uphill towards AMBROŽ POD KRVAVCEM, ŠENTURŠKA GORA (10.3 km from the highway exit). Uphill we drive 2 km and arrive at a crossroad, where from the main road we turn left towards AMBROŽ POD KRVAVCEM, STIŠKA VAS (12.3 km from the highway exit). From this crossroad we drive only uphill on the main road and after about 6 kilometers of driving, we arrive at Tourist Farm Pr' Ambružarju (18.4 km from the highway exit). Here you will see a blue traffic sign marking the parking lot, and below it is the caption »For guests of Tourist Farm Pr' Ambružar«. I still parked in their parking lot, as only one vehicle was parked there. I went a little around the house to ask for parking permission, but I didn’t find anyone.
br] Let's skip the walk to Krvavec and back, and let me say that upon returning to the parking lot, I saw even more parked vehicles. I looked for the owner Simona (go to the balcony on the first floor and open the first balcony door; there is the bar). At the owner, I ordered a beer, which cost 1.70 EUR, and I left her 2 EUR, explaining that she should consider it as a parking fee. Then I asked the owner if they get upset because mountaineers park in their parking lot. The owner said that they don’t and that most people come to ask for permission and also have something to drink. The problem is only in winter, when they have more guests and there aren’t enough parking spaces. My advice: when you park, go find the owner and ask her for advice. A problem could arise if, on the day of your parking, a larger group of announced guests arrives at the farm and they don’t have enough space for parking.
Path description:
From the parking lot at the tourist farm, go on foot back to the main road and then walk uphill on the main road for 20 meters and directly above the parking lot turn steeply into the forest. If you want to avoid the steepness at the beginning of the hike, continue on the asphalt path uphill, you will come to a sharp left turn and then continue on the asphalt again, and soon you will notice a “crossroads” with the mountain path I took.
I went above the tourist farm directly into the forest uphill and after 15 minutes reached the asphalt road again. I crossed it and continued the path in the same direction (towards the north) into the forest and uphill. Here I started facing the problem of a very poorly or completely unmarked path (there were almost no trail blazes, so I couldn’t rely on them; you will see only a few yellow/white blazes). So, with a little sense of orientation, you will succeed. On this part of the path, you will come across many yellow notes with the word “POHOD” that someone stuck on the trees. Follow these notes, as they are reliable all the way to the mountain pasture JEZERCA. After about five minutes of walking from the first crossing of the asphalt road, I reached it again, crossed it again, and stepped back into the forest. After less than 10 minutes of walking, I encountered the asphalt road again (the third crossing). Here, a “surprise” awaited me because I saw an asphalt turnoff uphill that isn’t marked on the map. When I approached it, I realized it was a newly built turnoff, essentially an access road to a newly built house above the asphalt road. Here, sheep greeted me along with a sign saying “NI PREHODA”. No need to panic, a few meters before that sign is a wooden signpost with the inscription “PLANINA JEZERCA”, which seems to have been placed by the house owner who also put up the “NI PREHODA” sign, not by PD Komenda. So, I followed the direction indicated by the signpost and after 10 minutes of walking arrived at PLANINA JEZERCA. Those who want to avoid walking between my starting point and the mountain pasture Jezerca can reach this pasture by driving on the road I crossed several times. At the mountain pasture JEZERCA, there is a fairly large parking lot that can accommodate more than 20 personal vehicles, and you will also find an information board and several signposts here.
br] From the mountain pasture JEZERCA, I continued the path uphill and towards the north. After a few minutes, the hill leveled out, and I continued the path on the “road”. While walking on this road, you will always see the RTV Slovenija tower on Krvavec ahead, which should serve as your guide. Right next to the tower is the Dom na Krvavcu, where I ascended on this path. From the mountain pasture JEZERCA, I walked another 20 minutes and arrived at KRIŠKO PLANINO, where you will see a larger number of “tourist” cottages and two cableways. Here, I had trouble again finding the path towards the Dom na Krvavcu. From this starting point, go uphill towards the RTV transmitter past the far-right house. There, you will also find a monument with the inscription “ZA SVOBODO PADLIM PARTIZANOM NA KRVAVCU, DOMAČINOM TER PRIJATELJEM TEH GORA”. While walking uphill, after a few steps, you will reach the mountain footpath again, which will guide you in the direction of the cableway. By walking along it, you will pass under the cableway and soon see the Dom na Krvavcu. From KRIŠKE PLANINE to the Dom na Krvavcu, I needed 20 minutes. The mountain hut was open, and I decided to continue the path towards the west to the hotel on the ski slope (I don’t know its name, but I think it is managed by the company AS). At the beginning, I walked on the road, then descended directly down the steep ski slope towards this hotel. For the path from the Dom na Krvavcu to the hotel, I needed 10 minutes. Here, too, I was disappointed with the trail signs, as a broken sign for the direction “KRIŽNA PLANINA” was lying on the ground near the information board.
br] From the hotel, I continued the path on the road downwards (here you will see yellow/white trail blazes again) and after 15 minutes arrived at the Dom na Gospincu. Another surprise! The mountain hut was closed, with a note on the entrance door saying “Dear visitors. We look forward to welcoming you again at the start of the ski season”. All this gave me the impression that PD Kranj, the manager of the mountain hut, does not consider mountaineers their primary visitors, even though the hut was built in 1977 specifically for mountaineers. How many mountaineers will visit this hut during the ski season? Sad, but true. Another issue is that the trail signpost at the information board on the mountain pasture JEZERCA clearly and misleadingly states “Planinski dom na Gospinci, at the upper cable car station, is OPEN. PD Kranj”.
br] From the Dom na Gospincu, I continued on the macadam road (the road leading from Ambrož pod Krvavcem past the mountain pasture JEZERCA to the upper cableway station on Krvavec or to the Dom na Gospincu) all the way to the mountain pasture JEZERCA, where I “tied the knot” at the information board and returned to the starting point via the same path. From the Dom na Gospincu to the mountain pasture JEZERCA, I needed 25 minutes, and from the mountain pasture JEZERCA to the starting point, an additional 25 minutes.
br] At the end of the description, let me say once again that I was very disappointed with the path I walked, particularly due to the lack of maintenance (absence) of trail blazes and similar markings, as well as the closure of the Dom na Gospincu. I hope this criticism reaches those responsible at PD Komenda and PD Kranj and that they take it as a suggestion for improvement, not as an attack on their operations. When (if) you renew the trail blazes, please note it in the comments.
br] Good luck.
