Babino Polje - Veliki grad (Mljet island)

Access to starting point:
We drive to Ploče, from where we continue towards Dubrovnik. We drive across the Pelješac Bridge and continue on the expressway to the Prapratno exit, where we turn left towards the island of Mljet. In the ferry port, we buy tickets and take the ferry to Sobra. There we continue right towards Pomena. When we reach the top of the hill and turn into the valley, we pay attention to the right turn-off to Babino Polje. We drive through the village to the Church of Saint Paul, where we park in the nearby parking lot.

Path description:
From the starting point, we go back along the road southwards. Soon we pay attention to a left turn-off located between houses. We follow the stairs past a newer house into the forest. The paved path ends. The path leads us through pine forest and makes switchbacks. The path is quite rocky in some places or partially overgrown. After about 20 minutes, the dense forest ends and we transition to more scenic slopes. Soon we reach a junction, where just before it on a rock is the stamp of the Mljet Hiking Circuit - Rogovići. We turn right towards the summit, straight to Sobra. The path climbs through a short pine forest to a rocky viewpoint. Then follows a slight descent and steep ascent over rocks, where hands are occasionally needed for support. The path initially follows the indistinct ridge, then moves to its left side. The path makes a larger switchback and returns to the ridge. It is also passable if we go along the ridge all the way. The path continues quite rocky through low shrubbery. Soon we reach the concreted section of the path and in a few minutes arrive at the highest peak of the island of Mljet, where there are several antennas and a geodetic pillar. A panoramic view opens up in all directions.
