Access to starting point:
Via the Rateče or Predel border crossing, we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio, then continue driving on the old road towards Vidmu / Udine. We follow this road to the settlement Lužnice / Bagni di Lusnizza. When we spot the church on the left side of the road, we turn sharply, almost 180 degrees left, into the mentioned settlement. We then follow the road through the village and the signs for the Museo della Foresta museum. When the last houses in the village end, we notice an asphalt parking lot on the right side of the road. We can park here already or continue driving and then cross the highway through the underpass. Immediately after the underpass, we continue left and then park at a suitable place by the road.
Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on a narrow road parallel to the highway. When we notice the exit and signs for the resting place La Foresta on the highway, we continue a few tens of meters along the road and then notice a cart track on the right that slightly ascends into the forest.
We head onto the mentioned cart track and soon after the start of the cart track, we notice an old sign by the path with markings for the mountain pasture Malga Granuda and Due Pizzi. We continue along the cart track to the nearby junction where there are also signposts.
We continue left on the poorer cart track past the feeding station for wild animals, where the signs for the mountain pasture Malga Granuda and Due Pizzi also direct us. To the right, a path leads towards the saddle Sella Bieliga.
A somewhat overgrown cart track leads us through the forest to a clearing and the stream Rio Granuda Piccolo where another cart track joins from the left. For a short time, we continue right on the increasingly poorly visible cart track, then turn decisively left and cross the stream. After crossing the stream, the path takes us into the forest and then proceeds eastwards. Here, the path ascends transversely and is quite damaged in some sections due to landslides and fallen trees. To the right, a path marked with orange dots branches off, while we continue straight and continue crossing the slopes eastwards. From the mentioned junction, we cross the slopes for about another 15 minutes, then the path turns decisively right. Thereafter, we ascend for a long time in switchbacks mostly through the forest, occasionally crossing a few quite overgrown clearings. Higher up, the path marked with orange dots rejoins from the right. The poorly trodden path continues ascending through the forest the whole time and thus offers no views. Just before the mountain pasture Malga Granuda, we reach a marked junction where a path branches off to the right towards the notch Forcella Cuel Tarond.
We continue straight on path 604 and, mostly in a gentle descent, soon reach the mountain pasture Malga Granuda.
On the mountain pasture, we continue past the shepherd's hut and descend along the cart track to the first left bend where there is a junction. At the bend, we leave the cart track and head straight onto the footpath. From the junction, we first walk briefly through a belt of deciduous forest, then the path leads onto steeper slopes covered with dwarf pines and larches. The relatively steep path then brings us to a marked junction.
We continue left towards Dve špici (Due Pizzi), while from the right a somewhat more demanding path joins via the notch Forcella Cuel Tarond.
From the junction, the path becomes even steeper, so during the ascent we occasionally need to use our hands. Later, the gradient eases and the path brings us to the scree slopes below the precipitous ridge of the peak Monte Gosadon. Here, the path turns left and crosses the mentioned scree. On the other side of the scree, the path ascends steeply again, followed by crossing a short gully where caution is needed due to sand on the path. Thereafter, the slope becomes more overgrown with dwarf pines again, and an ascent follows towards the saddle between the peaks Cima Alta (Dve špici) and Monte Gosadon. A little below the saddle, the path brings us to a junction where a more demanding path branches off to the right towards the summit of Monte Gosadon.
At the junction, we continue left and an ascent through dwarf pines follows. On a short section, a view opens to the south where Montaž is clearly visible. Soon we are at another junction where a path from the valleys of Zajzera and Dunja joins from the right.
We continue left again and then ascend for some time through dwarf pines on the western slopes of the peak Cima Alta. Higher up, the dwarf pines end and only a short ascent remains on the panoramic slope to the panoramic summit.
On the way: Malga Granuda (1501m)
