Bašelj - Bašeljski vrh

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, take the exit Kranj - east, then continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we arrive in Preddvor, leave the main road and continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there follow the signs for the settlement Bašelj. When we arrive in Bašelj, at the spot where the main road makes a long left turn, leave it and continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. Continue driving on a narrow asphalt road that leads us between houses and along the stream Belica. Park on the parking lot by the Tourism Association Bašelj.
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana, take the exit Kranj - west and at the first intersection continue left. We then drive through the underpass under the highway, then arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The road ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left turn, leave it and continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. Continue driving on a narrow asphalt road that leads us between houses and along the stream Belica. Park on the parking lot by the Tourism Association Bašelj.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue in the direction of the source of Belica, Kališče and Storžič (left Gamsov raj) on the macadam road closed to public traffic, which bypasses the hut of the Sports Tourism Park Belica on the right side. The road, from which a nice view of Storžič opens up at first, leads us past the football and basketball courts and brings us to a marked junction at the road turning area in about 10 minutes.
From the turning area, we continue right in the direction of Kališče on a marked path (left Kališče on the forest road, also Gradišče (Pustinjak) and Kališče past the Košuta hospital), which begins to ascend along the left tributary of Belica. The path ahead leads through the forest, first on the left side of the gully, then crosses it and switches to the right side, where after a short ascent we reach a rougher forest road or cart track. We follow the cart track for a few minutes, then the markers direct us right into the forest through which we ascend relatively steeply. Higher up, we cross an overgrown clearing or old cutting, then step back onto a wide cart track. On the cart track we walk only a few steps this time, as at the first bend we continue straight on a gradually less steep path. A little further on, we cross another cart track and above it approach a wide cart track completely. At the spot where we approach the cart track completely, there is a mountain signpost marking the path downward. Here we continue straight and after a minute or two of further walking join a better-trodden path from Mač.
From the mentioned junction, we continue left in the direction of Kališče (straight Mače on the road, right Mače on the footpath) and continue through a short belt of dense forest. The dense spruce forest ends quickly and we step onto a rough forest road leading from the valley of the Belica stream. We ascend the road, which soon makes a left bend, for a few minutes, then notice the continuation of the mountain path on the right side (the branch-off is well marked). The path ahead moves onto a steeper slope and ascends relatively steeply in numerous zigzags. Higher up the forest thins out temporarily and a nice view opens towards the south. On the section of sparse forest, a wooden bench provides a pleasant rest, a little further a working clock on a tree "surprises" us. Continuing, we traverse somewhat more to the right to reach the forested southern ridge of Kališče. On the mentioned ridge, the path turns sharply left, then ascends in a few zigzags to Spodnje Kališče, from where a nice view of Storžič opens up.
When the path above Spodnje Kališče returns to the forest, the path from Laškega joins from the left (also the path from Bašelj past the Košuta hospital). A few more minutes of walking through the forest follow and we arrive at a nice viewpoint from which a nice view opens towards the nearby Dom na Kališču, Mali Grintovec, the Lanež ridge, Krvavec... From the viewpoint, only a short ascent remains and we are at the Dom na Kališču.
Behind the Dom na Kališču, we notice a mountain signpost with numerous continuation options. We continue on the easy and scenic ridge path in the direction of Storžič, Bašeljski vrh..., which continues northwards. After a few minutes of easy walking amid beautiful views reaching to the Julian Alps, we arrive at a junction where we continue right (straight to Storžič) towards Bašeljski vrh. The path ahead climbs more steeply through a belt of dwarf pines and brings us, with nice views of the neighbouring Mali Grintovec, onto the dwarf pine-covered ridge of Bašeljski vrh, where in the next few minutes we reach the next well-marked junction. At the junction, the path to Mali Grintovec and Srednji vrh branches right, we continue straight and, with a view of Storžič, continue the ascent. The path, which runs along and beside the dwarf pine-covered ridge, joins shortly below the summit with the path from Jekarica and Bašeljski preval. Here we continue right and along a somewhat narrower ridge reach Bašeljski vrh in one minute of further walking, from which a nice view opens towards the mountains above Jezersko, reaching as far as Košuta, Obir and the Lavanttal Alps in Austria.
