Bašelj - Dom na Kališču (on forest road)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice, we take the exit Kranj - east, then continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we arrive in Preddvor, we leave the main road and continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement; from there, we follow the signs for the settlement Bašelj. When we arrive in Bašelj, at the spot where the main road makes a long left turn, we leave it and continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road that leads us between the houses and along the stream Belica. We park on the parking lot by the Tourist Association Bašelj.
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana, we take the exit Kranj - west and at the first intersection continue left. We then drive through the underpass under the highway and arrive at a roundabout, from which we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The route ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju; at the end of the settlement, we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left turn; we leave it and continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road that leads us between the houses and along the stream Belica. We park on the parking lot by the Tourist Association Bašelj.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue in the direction of the spring of Belica, Kališče and Storžič (left Gamsov raj) on the macadam road closed to public traffic, which bypasses the hut of the Sports Tourist Park Belica on the right side. The road, from which a nice view of Storžič opens up at first, leads us past the football and basketball courts and brings us to a marked junction at the turning area of the road in approximately 10 minutes.
From the turning area, we continue left in the direction of Kališče on the forest road (right Kališče on the marked path). We continue on a worse forest road, from which a cart track soon branches off slightly to the left, leading towards Gradišče, sv. Lovrenc and Kališče past the Košuta hospital; we continue slightly right on the worse road, which a little further crosses the Belica stream. After the stream, the road changes into a wide cart track, which then begins to ascend more steeply. The cart track crosses a few gullies during the ascent, and from it we occasionally get some views; otherwise, we mostly ascend through the forest. On a few shorter sections, the marked path from Bašelj joins us (the path that turned right at the turning area); higher up, the more beaten path from Mače also joins us.
From the spot where the path from Mače joins us, we walk along the road only a short time longer, as a large arrow on a tree then directs us right into the forest. The path ahead transitions to a steeper slope and ascends relatively steeply in numerous zigzags. Higher up, the forest thins out temporarily and a nice view opens up towards the south. On the section of sparse forest, a wooden bench provides a pleasant rest; a little further, a working clock on a tree "surprises" us. We then traverse towards the right for a while longer, reaching the forested southern ridge of Kališče. On this ridge, the path turns sharply left and then ascends in a few zigzags to Spodnje Kališče, from where a beautiful view of Storžič opens up.
When the path above Spodnje Kališče returns to the forest, the path from Laško (also the path from Bašelj past the Košuta hospital) joins us from the left. A few more minutes of walking through the forest follow, and we arrive at a nice viewpoint, from which a nice view opens up towards the nearby Dom na Kališču, Mali Grintavec, the Lanež ridge, Krvavec... From the viewpoint, only a short ascent remains, and we are already at the Dom na Kališču.
