Bašelj - Planina Kališče (on unmarked path)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Kranj - east, and then we continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we get to Preddvor we leave the main road and we continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement, from there we follow the signs for the settlement Bašelj. When we get to Bašelj, at the spot where the main road makes a long left turn, we leave it and we continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road which leads us between the houses and the stream Belica. We park on the parking lot by the Tourism Association Bašelj.
B) From the highway Jesenice - Ljubljana we go to the exit Kranj - west and at the first intersection we continue left. Further, we drive through the underpass below the highway, and then we get to a roundabout, from where we continue driving in the direction of Golnik. The path ahead leads us through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, and at the end of the settlement we continue right in the direction of the settlement Srakovlje. Next follows driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela, Zgornja Bela (in Zgornja Bela we join the road from Preddvor) to Bašelj, where the main road makes a long left turn, we leave it and we continue driving straight in the direction of Gamsova pot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road which leads us between the houses and the stream Belica. We park on the parking lot by the Tourism Association Bašelj.

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the macadam road which is closed to public traffic by a traffic sign. On the road, we ascend gently to moderately, and it takes us past the football and basketball fields and past the water supply structure to a marked junction.
From the junction, we continue slightly left in the direction of the partisan hospital Košuta and Kališče (right a somewhat shorter path to Kališče), where the path leads us on a steeper cart track, and from it after a short ascent we go left onto a marked footpath. There follows an ascent through the forest; on the section where we cross the clearing, the path is somewhat overgrown. There follows some more ascent and we reach a macadam road, along which we ascend to a smaller saddle, where Gamsova pot continues to the left, and a few steps further a one-minute path branches off to the right leading to the summit of Gradišče.
We continue on the road, which descends slightly, then turns right and brings us to the turning area, where it ends.
Here the poorer road along which the marked path runs continues to the left, but we go straight ahead, where we notice an unmarked path along which we continue. There follows an ascent over a steep slope, then the slope flattens somewhat, but the path remains steep. Higher up the path mostly follows an indistinct ridge, and further on it crosses several cart tracks. There follow a few minutes of scenic ascent, then we return to the forest, where a steel cable assists us, though the passage would not be particularly difficult even without the steel cable.
A few steps above the steel cable we return to the marked path, which continues to ascend quite steeply, and at two points fixed protections assist us (dry: undemanding). Higher the path turns somewhat to the right and after a few minutes of further walking we arrive at Spodnje Kališče, where there are a few huts and from where a nice view of Storžič opens up.
