Over the border crossing Podgorje we drive in the direction of Brest for about 15 km. Somewhere halfway between Dane and Brest, when we briefly spot an antenna on the southeastern slope of Žbevnica, we turn right onto a macadam road. At the very beginning of the macadam road stands a sign "Žbevnica 1h". After 100 meters we reach an expansion, where there is space for approximately 10 cars.
Path description:
We follow the macadam road for a good 500 meters, whereupon blazes direct us to grassy plains, which are initially still slightly vegetated with pine trees. A poorly trodden path, after 15 minutes of walking, brings us to the door of an old tunnel. Blazes suggest continuing to the right of the tunnel entrance, but a more pleasant cart track runs to the left just around the door. After 15 minutes, at a 986-meter-high hillock, both paths merge again, and along the cart track that runs along the ridge, we continue to the top of Žbevnica, which is no longer far. If we are lucky, we can admire the entire Istria peninsula, the Julian Alps, and even the Dolomites from the peak. Golič, Slavnik, Učka, and Snežnik are more or less constant companions of the panorama. The greater part of the path is exposed to the bora.
