Access to starting point:
a) Drive to Col, then follow the road towards Otlice and Predmeja. This is followed by driving across the Gora plateau, where the road leads through several villages; when joining the road from Ajdovščina at Predmeja, go right towards the settlement of Lokve. The road ahead leads through a valley, where first a marked path branches right towards Golakov, slightly further the road turns left and ascends from the valley to the slope. When higher up the road turns right, drive further to the 3.5 km road marker, where first on the left, about 50 m further on the right, we notice a suitable parking space. Nearby are mountaineering signs for Čaven and Golake.
b) Drive to Ajdovščina, then follow signs for Lokavec and Predmeja. This is followed by a fairly steep ascent on the road to Predmeja, where continue straight towards the settlement of Lokve. When higher up the road turns right, drive further to the 3.5 km road marker, where first on the left, about 50 m further on the right, we notice a suitable parking space. Path description:
On the south side of the road, we notice signs for Koča Antona Bavčerja na Čavnu (to the north side leads the path towards Iztokova koča pod Golaki), which direct us to a trail that initially runs parallel to the road, then gradually moves away from it. Several junctions follow, where we follow the markers, partly walking on the trail, partly on the cart track, the path leading occasionally uphill, occasionally downhill. Although the path zigzags left and right several times, it mostly traverses the slopes to the left, and after about an hour of walking, it brings us to a road, which we reach right at the junction.
We cross the road at the junction and continue the ascent on the cart track towards Čavn. A large number of similar junctions follow, where we follow the marked cart track. Higher up, at the head of an indistinct valley, the cart track ends and we steeply ascend the trail for a short time, then reach another cart track, where we go left and in a few minutes ascend to a poorer road, where the marked path branches.
Continue slightly left towards Koča na Čavnu (sharply right to Veliki Modrasovec) and for a short time continue on the poorer road, from the road soon go right onto the marked footpath, which continues along the slopes of Veliki Modrasovec. A few minutes of traversing follow and we reach the saddle between Mali and Veliki Modrasovec, here from the right the path over Veliki Modrasovec joins us.
Continue towards Koča na Čavnu and gradually arrive at the western slopes of Mali Modrasovec, where a few minutes long unmarked path branches left to the mentioned summit, we continue straight on the marked path, which soon leaves the forest and then transversely descends across the grassy terrain. When we reach the road a little lower, we go left and we are at Koča Antona Bavčerja na Čavnu.
The description and photos refer to the condition in July 2025.
