Bijela - Osobac (Via ferrata Osobac)

Access to starting point:
From the town of Konjic, follow the signs to Boračko Lake. In the settlement of Mladeškovići (1.8 km from the Travel Konjic Rafting Center - visible along the road), where the main road turns sharply left (at the small shop), turn right into the Bijela valley. Follow the narrow asphalt road to the village of Bijela, passing through it along the main road. At the end of the village, where the asphalt ends, we encounter warning signs for the Igman company shooting range. WARNING: Continuing along the path is not recommended on Tuesdays and Thursdays, as the company tests produced ammunition in the valley (status July 2023). From the shooting range warning signs, continue along the good gravel road for another 1.3 km, where on the left we notice a junction with a barrier and hiking signs. At this point, find a suitable parking spot.

Path description:
From the starting point, head along the forest road closed by a barrier. After about half an hour, numerous markers indicate the trail junction off the road. The path then ascends ever more steeply through the forest, secured with a steel cable at one point when crossing a gully. The forest gradually thins and the path becomes somewhat gentler. The terrain turns grassy-rocky, but soon along the path we come across faded markers where a sign directs left into the ferrata (the inscription on the directional sign is very poorly visible). The path to this point takes approx. 1 h 45 min. From the path continuing towards Jezerce (mountain hut), turn left into the scree, where after approx. 5 minutes of steep ascent we reach the ferrata entrance. The ferrata follows exposed sections in places, with intermediate stretches where no protection is needed (bushes, flat). It is very well equipped with aids (pegs, bolts), but quite long, as we gain approx. 500 m of elevation on it. After 2 hours of climbing, reach the western subpeak, from which descend slightly and through bushes reach the summit in 20 minutes.
Descent from the summit follows a marked trail along the grassy ridge eastward (past a natural window). Descend it to the saddle, along which runs the marked path between Crno polje and Jezerce. When the trail from Osobac joins this one, turn right towards the Jezerce mountain hut. At the hut, head right (direction Bijela), following the marked trail to the ferrata junction and back to the starting point via the approach trail. Due to the path's length, descent requires approx. 3.5 h of hiking.
