Access to starting point:
A) We leave the Gorenjska highway at the Lesce exit, and then we follow the signs for Bled and Bohinj. A little before the end of Bled we leave the main road towards Bohinj and we continue slightly right in the direction of the camp. After approximately 1.5 km of additional driving, we arrive at Camp Bled, where at the edge of the camp we park on a paid parking lot. The price for parking is 3 eur/h (November 2019).
B) We drive to Bohinjska Bistrica, and then we continue driving towards Bled. At the beginning of Bled we go left in the direction of Camp Bled. After approximately 1.5 km of additional driving, we arrive at Camp Bled, where at the edge of the camp we park on a paid parking lot. The price for parking is 3 eur/h (November 2019).
Route description:
From the parking lot, we walk to the lake and then we continue left (the path further is described clockwise, if we continue right we walk it in the reverse direction).
The path ahead leads us on a narrower asphalt road which runs directly by the western shore of the lake. From the gentle path several times a nice view opens up on the lake and Bled Island with the Church of the Assumption of Mary, and the path gradually leads to Mala Zaka, where we go past the Olympic Rowing Centre Bled, after which we get to the northern shore of the lake. At a few junctions we continue right, so that we stick to the walking path which leads by the lake, and it brings us below the cliffs, on the top of which stands Bled Castle. Here also one of the paths which leads towards the castle branches off, and we continue by the lake and get closer to the town of Bled.
Further, we also stick to the right branches (exceptions are branches which lead to private land) and we get to the eastern shore, where we reach hotels which are located by the lake. We bypass the hotels on the lower side, and the panoramic path by the lake lightly ascends to the main road Bled - Bohinj, along the edge of which we continue for some time. At the foot of Straža Hill we walk parallel with the road, and when the main road towards Bohinj moves away from the lake, we continue on a footpath which leads us right of Villa Bled, from where there is a nice view towards Bled Island and Bled Castle. For some time we walk on a pleasant walking path, and then we get closer to the road which leads towards Camp Zaka. For a short time we continue by the mentioned road, and then on wooden stairs we descend to the path which is laid out at the edge of the lake. After a few minutes, we return to the edge of the road and then we continue past the referee tower to Velika Zaka, where we started the trail and also end it.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in December 2020.
