We leave the A2 highway Graz - Vienna / Wien at the exit for Gleisdorf West, then follow the signs for Hartberg and Weiz, later only Weiz. Through Weiz, we follow the signs for Passail. For the gorge Weizklamm, we turn right from the main road towards Sommeralm and surrounding settlements (straight for Passail). In the continuation, the ascent becomes more noticeably visible, and we follow the signs for Sommeralm. Higher up, the road to Sommeralm turns sharply to the left, but here we continue straight into the settlement Brandlucken, where we then park. There are some parking lots in the settlement, larger ones are private. It is best to park at the first macadam parking lot on the right side.
Path description:
From the settlement Brandlucken, past the chapel or past the hotel Naturhotel Bauernhofer, we ascend to a forested ridge located northeast of the settlement, then go left and follow the signs for Sommeralm and Teichalm. A little further, we get very close to the asphalt road leading towards Sommeralm, but we continue slightly to the right of the road for a short time, and at the chapel we reach a small crossroad, with the path continuing along the road in the direction of the signs for Sommeralm. We quickly leave the main road and continue left of the main road along a side road leading to a nearby hamlet, but we soon go right onto a footpath and ascend to the asphalt road, which this time we only cross. Now we ascend somewhat above the road, soon we get very close to the road, then a cart track branches off slightly to the right from the road, along which we continue the ascent. Next follows a short ascent along the edge of a panoramic meadow, then behind the wooden cottage the path turns left and stops ascending. A little further, we return to the asphalt road, along which we continue for a few minutes, then go slightly left and continue along the path that runs parallel to the road and somewhat below it. Next follows a longer gentle traverse ascent, first still through a strip of forest, then across a larger panoramic meadow. Higher up, we cross the asphalt road for the last time and walk by the parking lot to the hut Stoakoglhütte.
We bypass the hut Stoakoglhütte on the left side and continue slightly right in the direction of Sommeralm and Plankogel. The path ahead leads us along a grassy cart track, which brings us to a junction on a small saddle in about five minutes.
We continue along the slightly left path in the direction of the path to Sommeralm (slightly right Plankogel), the path takes us past a small cross into the forest, where we get very close to the asphalt road. The path ahead leads us parallel to the main road, leading us a few elevation meters above the road. When we leave the forest, we first cross a pasture fence, then descend easily to the parking lot at Sommeralm. From here we continue in the same direction and walk past some buildings on Sommeralm to the central part of the settlement, or we can go another minute further to the chapel, which is located at the edge of the forest.
