Crikvenica - Drenin

Access to starting point:
In Crikvenica we descend from the Adriatic main road. Parking in the town is quite difficult, especially in the tourist season. I recommend that the car is left somewhere near the stadium NK Crikvenica, which is located directly below the large viaduct above the town.

Path description:
The path starts at the mouth of the river Dubračina into the sea, where there is also a bridge for pedestrians. We continue along the river to the next bridge, where we will cross the road and proceed along the riverbank on a one-way road. There are no blazes here yet, but tourist signposts guide us. At the next bridge, (the bridge with a blue fence), we will cross to the other side of the river Dubračina and continue a few more meters alongside it. The path then leads us to the parking lot of the Plodine store, where we will take Kotorska road and continue eastward. We soon pass under a larger viaduct that runs above the town. Here we will see another tourist sign and finally the first blaze. (Here is also the parking lot of NK Crikvenica, where we can start our path).
From the first blaze, we walk about a minute along Kotorska street, then reach a junction where our path turns right upward.
The path now ascends quite steeply among the last houses in Crikvenica, then quickly reaches a cart track. After a few minutes, the cart track levels out, and we arrive at a junction where a path from Kotor joins from the left, but we turn right.
The path quickly narrows and runs alongside a stone wall. We soon reach the next junction, where we continue straight. The path then slightly descends, leading to a spot where a beautiful view opens up for the first time on Gornji Vinodol and the towns of Grižane, Belgrad, and Tribalj.
From the viewpoint, our path turns sharply right to the southwest and begins to climb more steeply. The forest gives way to bushes, which become increasingly sparse. The path leads us to a wider cart track, beside which stands an older, unfinished, and abandoned house. The cart track soon turns into an asphalt road, where a beautiful view opens up again on Vinodol and the island of Krk to the west.
We continue slightly downhill on the asphalt through the hamlet Zoričići (the highest hamlet of Crikvenica), where another variant of the ascent to Drenin joins us. We go downhill on the asphalt until a bend, where we leave the asphalt and head upward. We leave the meadows and enter a beautiful mixed forest. Unfortunately, we are in the forest for only about a minute, as we then reach a part the locals call "pogorete šume" (the forest burned down in a fire that raged here years ago). The path leads us to another stone fence, which we follow while ascending for some time, then cross it.
A short descent follows, which seems illogical but fortunately ends quickly. After the descent comes a very steep final ascent to the peak of Drenin, where the slippery and rocky terrain causes difficulties. Just before the peak, there is a turn-off to a nearby viewpoint, and at the top, the remains of a former fort are visible. At the top, there is also a metal inscription box with a logbook.
