Dom pod Storžičem - Okno v Stegovniku (western way)

Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway take the Ljubelj exit. From this road, turn right into Tržič just before the petrol station. Follow the road through Tržič and on the other side of Tržič turn right towards Lom pod Storžičem. Follow this road further towards the signs for Dom pod Storžičem. Park in the parking lot a few metres before the mountain hut.

Path description:
From the parking lot near Dom pod Storžičem head to the left road in the direction of Javorniško sedlo, Jezersko, Tič, Rekar and Grahovš. After a few steps the road forks, we continue slightly right towards Javorniški preval and gradually begin a moderate ascent.
Higher up, where the road turns into a cart track, leave it and continue right along the marked path which begins to ascend more steeply, crossing the cart track twice more before Javorniški preval, which can also be reached along the cart track. After approximately 1 hour of walking reach the mentioned pass where there is a signpost and stamping box and a junction of several paths.
Here continue left (right Kanonir, sharply right Storžič), after some 10 steps arrive at the next junction. The right path leads towards Močnikovo sedlo, we continue along the left path in the direction of Planina Javornik. The path continues along a wide and level cart track which for a while traverses the slopes northwestwards. After a few minutes the forest thins and the increasingly scenic path takes us to Planina Javornik from which a fine view opens up.
On the pasture near one of the huts reach the road, continue along it northwards (left downhill Koča pr Zdravc, right uphill Ženiklovec), near a few more huts the road turns right and heads east. Followed by some traverse descent through forest, on leaving the forest the road reaches a small junction, but before the junction continue straight onto the mountain path beside which are signs for Stegovnik (here from the left joins an unmarked path in its lower part with start at Planina Vetrh).
The path ahead crosses a meadow, on the other side of the meadow return to the forest, the path continues along a cart track which mostly descends gently. Later the cart track turns into a trail which partly ascends, partly descends, leading us mainly along the western slopes. During the traversing only occasionally do some views open up, mainly in the direction of Košuta, later the path also leads past a pleasant bench. On leaving the area of Mali Javornik the slope gradually becomes less steep, the forest is left here and there and some overgrown clearing is crossed.
On approaching the Stegovnik massif, at a small saddle reach a junction where from the right joins the path from Jezersko, it is possible to switch from the eastern path to the western or vice versa.
Continue straight ahead, i.e. keep to the western ridge direction, but a little further the slope becomes quite steep, the path takes us to the first fixed wire rope, with the aid of which we enter Okno v Stegovniku. In the middle of the window a passage opens to the left towards the second window, to which we descend by a short ladder, from there continue right through a smaller window behind which we step onto the other side of the ridge.
