Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Jesenice we go to the exit Ljubelj. From this road before the gas station, we turn right towards Tržič. We follow the road ahead through Tržič and on the other side of Tržič we turn right towards Lom pod Storžičem. We follow this road ahead towards the signs for Dom pod Storžičem. We park on a parking lot a few meters before the mountain hut.
Path description:
From the parking lot in front of the mountain hut we go on the road which goes left in the direction of Javorniško sedlo saddle and mountain pasture Javornik. The road after approximately 20 minutes of walking changes into a cart track. Here we can continue on a marked footpath which is quite abandoned or on a cart track. I recommend walking on a cart track because it is orientationally easier even though it isn't marked. We follow the cart track, which ascends relatively steeply, through the forest to Javorniško sedlo saddle, where there is a crossing. Left mountain pasture Javornik, right Stegovnik and Mačensko sedlo. We go to the left cart track path towards the mountain pasture Javornik (not in the direction of Stegovnik, possible circular path, which is approximately equally long). Cart track ahead in a gentle ascent crosses slopes of Javornik and after 20 minutes of walking brings us to the mountain pasture.
On the mountain pasture, we step on the forest road which then in a gentle descent we follow at first towards the north, when the road makes a turn mainly towards the east. After approximately 15 minutes of walking on the road we come to a larger meadow, where there is also a crossroad. Here we leave the road and continue in the direction of Stegovnik on the path which crosses the mentioned meadow. On the other side of the meadow, the path goes into the forest and continues on a cart track which is mostly slightly descending. After a while the cart track turns into a footpath which now ascends and then again descends. The path from which only rare views open up (mainly on the ridge of Košuta) eventually brings us to a pleasant bench. The path ahead continues through the forest, which is occasionally interrupted by a clearing overgrown with high grass. A little further we come to a smaller crossing, where a path from Jezersko joins from the right (and the eastern path - option to return to the starting point). We continue straight and the path brings us in a few additional steps to the window in Stegovnik.
With the help of a steel cable we ascend to the first window in the middle of which a passage opens to the left via a ladder downwards. The window then narrows (watch your head) and the path brings us to the other side of the side ridge. On the other side of the window the path starts to ascend more steeply and brings us in zigzags to the ridge of Stegovnik. There follows another 10 minutes of walking on the panoramic ridge. In the snow the ridge is dangerous for slipping.
We can descend on the eastern path.
