Dorfarje - Sveti Križ (Križna Gora)

Access to starting point:
A) From Ljubljana, we drive to Medvode, and from there we continue driving towards Škofja Loka. When we get to Škofja Loka, we don't drive into the center, but we continue "straight" in the direction of Kranj. In the settlement Dorfarje we notice signs for Crngrob, which point us to the left, on the road which further leads through the mentioned village. First, we drive past the furniture salon Prevc, then past the turn-off towards the farm pri Brojanu, and further also past the tree nurseries Cegnar and Zakotnik, after which the quite narrow road which runs through the village widens a little. After the village follows a short descent and the road brings us to a larger parking lot, which is situated by the shooting range of the Slovenian army.
B) First, we drive to Kranj, and from there we continue driving towards Škofja Loka. Before we get to Škofja Loka, in the settlement Dorfarje we continue right in the direction of the settlement Crngrob. C) From Žiri, Cerkno or Železniki we drive to Škofja Loka, and from there we continue in the direction of Kranj. In the settlement Dorfarje we notice signs for Crngrob, which point us to the left, on the road which further leads through the mentioned village. Path description:
From the parking lot, we return on the road back into Dorfarje, and there at two successive crossroads we continue left. Behind the last house, the asphalt ends, and we continue on a cart track which leads us past the hayrack. Further, we walk for a short time across a larger meadow, and then the already entirely grassy cart track turns left and descends a little. After a short descent, we approach the bed of the stream, which we then also cross with the help of a wooden footbridge. On the other side of the footbridge we continue for some time along the stream, and then a beaten but unmarked footpath starts to ascend gently. After a few minutes, we reach a cart track, which we follow to the left, and we walk along it to the place where it crosses a smaller streamlet. Immediately after the streamlet we go slightly left onto a beaten footpath, which again starts to ascend gently. Higher up the path enters the forest and a little further joins the next cart track, along which we ascend moderately for some 10 steps, then it levels out and brings us to the ridge and a little further to a junction. From the junction we continue along the right cart track, and from it after some 10 steps slightly left onto a steep footpath, which continues along the forested ridge. After a few minutes of steep ascent we reach the indistinct summit of Pošpoh (626 m), from which a view opens towards Šmarjetna gora through the treetops.
A gentle descent follows, then the path widens into a cart track. Somewhat further, at a smaller junction we continue slightly left, then for some time we ascend diagonally. Further on the path leads us also past the NOB memorial park, and behind it we arrive at the turning area of the nearby road in a few minutes. We continue along the road, which diagonally descends a little for a while, then brings us out of the forest, where it leads past a beehive and a hunting observation post. A short walk follows and we join the marked path from Crngrob.
We continue straight along the road, which becomes asphalt and which brings us past a bench and a water trough to a somewhat larger junction, where we continue left in the direction of Planica (here to the right and straight from the path we will notice the NOB monument). Further ahead the path leads us along the asphalt road, along which we quickly arrive at the settlement Planica, where to the right a path branches off which leads to the summit of Planica, where the church of St. Archangel Gabriel stands, and we continue straight through the village.
Through the village the path descends slightly, and from the left in the middle of the village the path from the settlement Pevno also joins. We continue in the direction of Križna Gora along the road, which soon leaves the village, then ascends diagonally across the grassy slope. When the diagonal ascent ends we arrive at a kind of ridge, where we continue right, then with nice views we continue also past a few houses. Higher we reach the main ridge, where we continue sharply left onto a cart track which starts to descend gently (to the right along the road the summit of Planica).
The cart track soon descends even more steeply, then brings us out of the forest onto a scenic grassy slope, from which a nice view opens onto part of the Škofjeloško hribovje (view of the hills from Lubnik across Stari vrh to Blegoš). Across the scenic slope the path ascends gently, then returns to the forest, through which it starts descending again. Lower we reach a macadam road, which we follow straight, and along it we gently ascend to the nearby bus turning area. At the NOB monument we emerge from the forest again, then descend along the asphalt road to a relatively new and nicely arranged parking lot, which is located above the village Križna Gora.
From there follows still some descent, then past the branch-off of the path to the settlement Praprotno, we arrive at a junction in the middle of the village Križna Gora, from where we continue right in the direction of the church and the hunting hut. We continue along a fairly scenic and initially still asphalt road, which gently ascends towards the high-voltage power line. Behind the power line the road levels out, or even descends slightly, then from it to the left a footpath branches off, which leads directly towards the church of St. Cross.
We continue along the mentioned footpath, which runs parallel to the road and along which we arrive at the already mentioned church in a few minutes.
From the church, from where a nice view opens, we continue along a well-beaten path, which continues somewhat to the right and returns to the road which we left shortly before. When we step onto the road we continue slightly left and in a minute of further walking we arrive at the hunting hut, which is located at the edge of the forest.
