Dorfarje - Sveti Križ (Križna Gora) (via Planica)

Access to starting point:
A) From Ljubljana, we drive to Medvode, and from there we continue driving towards Škofja Loka. When we get to Škofja Loka, we don't drive into the center, but we continue "straight" in the direction of Kranj. In the settlement Dorfarje we notice signs for Crngrob, which point us to the left, on the road which further leads through the mentioned village. First, we drive past the furniture salon Prevc, then past the turn-off towards the farm pri Brojanu, and further also past the tree nurseries Cegnar and Zakotnik, and then the quite narrow road which runs through the village widens a little. After the village follows a short descent and the path brings us to a larger parking lot, which is situated by the shooting range of the Slovenian army.
B) First, we drive to Kranj, and from there we continue driving towards Škofja Loka. Before we get to Škofja Loka, in the settlement Dorfarje we continue right in the direction of the settlement Crngrob. First, we drive past the furniture salon Prevc, then past the turn-off towards the farm pri Brojanu, and further also past the tree nurseries Cegnar and Zakotnik, and then the quite narrow road which runs through the village widens a little. C) From Žirov, Cerkno or Železniki we drive to Škofja Loka, and from there we continue in the direction of Kranj. In the settlement Dorfarje we notice signs for Crngrob, which point us to the left, on the road which further leads through the mentioned village. Path description:
From the parking lot, we return back on the road into Dorfarje, and there at two successive crossroads we continue left. Behind the last house, the asphalt ends, and we continue on a cart track which leads us past the hayrack. Further, we walk for a short time through a larger meadow, and then the already entirely grassy cart track turns left and descends a little. After a short descent, we get closer to the riverbed of the stream, which then with the help of a wooden bridge we also cross. On the other side of the bridge we for some time continue along the stream and then a beaten, but unmarked footpath starts lightly ascending. After a few minutes, we reach the cart track which we follow to the left, and we walk on it to the spot, where it crosses a smaller stream. Immediately after the stream we go slightly left on a beaten footpath which again starts lightly ascending. Higher, the path passes into the forest and a little ahead joins the next cart track, on which we for some 10 steps still moderately ascend, and then it flattens and brings us on the ridge and a little ahead also to a crossing. From the crossing, we continue on the right cart track, and from there after some 10 steps slightly left on a steep footpath which continues on a forested ridge. After a few minutes of steep ascent, we reach an indistinct peak Pošpoh (626 m), from which through the treetops a view opens up towards Šmarjetna gora.
Next follows an easy descent, and then the path widens into a cart track. A little further, at the smaller crossing, we continue slightly left and then we for some time ascend diagonally. Further, the path leads us also past the memorial park NOB, and behind it in a few minutes we get to the turning point of the nearby road. We continue on the road which temporarily descends a little and then brings us out of the forest, where it leads us past a beehive and a hunting observatory. Next follows a short walk and we join the marked path from Crngrob.
We continue straight on the road which becomes asphalt and which past the bench and the trough with water brings us to a somewhat larger crossroad, where we continue left in the direction of Planica (here we will to the right and straight from the path notice the NOB monument). The path ahead leads us on the asphalt road, on which we quickly get to the settlement Planica, where at the first houses we continue sharply right in the direction of the church on Planica. At the nearby landmark (cross) we leave the road and we continue on a pleasant footpath which starts moderately ascending. The footpath continues through the forest, only on the part where the path leads us past a weekend house temporarily a nice view opens up, which reaches to Polhograjsko hribovje and Lubnik. Higher, the path brings us on an indistinct ridge, on which in a minute or two of further walking we get to the church of St. Archangel Gabriel on Planica.
From the top, we continue on the macadam road which at the nearby residential house becomes asphalt, and we descend on it to a smaller chapel by the water intake, where the road turns left.
Here, where from the left joins the path which bypasses the top of Planica, we continue straight on a cart track which starts lightly descending. The cart track soon descends even steeper, and then it brings us out of the forest on a panoramic grassy slope, from which a nice view opens up on part of Škofjeloško hribovje (a view on hills from Lubnik over Stari vrh to Blegoš). Over the panoramic slope the path lightly ascends, and then it returns into the forest, through which it again starts descending. Lower, we reach the macadam road which we follow straight, on which we lightly ascend to the nearby bus turning point. At the NOB monument we again come out of the forest and then on the asphalt road we descend to a relatively new and nicely arranged parking lot, which is situated above the village Križna Gora.
From here follows some more descent, and then past the turn-off of the path to the settlement Praprotno, we get to a crossroad in the middle of the village Križna Gora, from where we continue right in the direction of the church and the hunting cottage. We continue on a quite panoramic and at first still asphalt road which gently ascends towards the high-voltage power line. After the power line, the road flattens, or even slightly descends, and then from it to the left branches off a footpath, which leads directly towards the church of the Holy Cross.
We continue on the mentioned footpath which continues parallel with the road and on which in a few minutes we get to the already mentioned little church.
From the little church, from where a nice view opens up, we continue on a well-beaten path which continues somewhat to the right and returns to the road which we left shortly before. When we step on the road we continue slightly left and in a minute of further walking we get to the hunting cottage, which is situated at the edge of the forest.
