From the Nova Gorica - Razdrto highway we take the exit Selo, and then we continue driving on the parallel old road towards Ajdovščina. At the end of the settlement Selo we turn left and drive across the bridge over the highway to the nearby industrial area. Here we continue straight, and then we arrive at the intersection in Gojače, where we again continue straight. Further, we drive past the cemetery, after which we continue slightly right, and then at the next intersection, which is situated only a little further from the nearby church, again slightly right. The road then ascends somewhat steeper and brings us past the last houses in the village to the hunting cottage LD Čaven (Gojače). We park on the large macadam parking lot near the hunting cottage.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we head onto a cart track, beside which we notice signs for sv. Pavel, Kucelj and Čaven. The cart track, which goes straight into the forest, starts to ascend moderately and brings us in 5 minutes of walking to a marked junction, where the path from the neighbouring village Malovše joins from the left.
Here we continue right along a nicely traceable but unmarked cart track that continues through increasingly sparse forest, ascending to the next marked junction. This time we take the left cart track (right sv. Pavel and Vrtovin), beside which there are signs for Kucelj and sv. Pavel. Just a few 10 m higher we join a wider cart track and follow it right (left Črniče). Next we ascend along the mentioned cart track for about 10 minutes, then arrive at the next junction, where the signs for Kucelj direct us right onto a somewhat narrower cart track, to which soon from the right joins the path by which we would arrive if somewhat lower we had continued in the direction of sv. Pavel and Vrtovina. Further we cross right for some time, then the path brings us to a larger trough. From here we continue briefly through a belt of bushes, then the path brings us to the place where we continue left towards Kucelj (right Školj sv. Pavla).
The path ahead leads through a belt of bushes, then quickly brings us into the forest, where we arrive at the next marked junction. Again we continue towards Kucelj and continue the ascent on the path that higher crosses the macadam road. The path ahead ascends moderately and soon crosses the road again. At this road crossing a nice view opens towards Veliki rob, and the path immediately returns to the forest, through which we moderately ascend for a few more minutes. Higher the path turns right and descends briefly to the nearby junction, where we join the path from Vrtovina.
The path ahead starts to ascend steeply through the forest, through which we then ascend for quite some time. Higher we cross Srednječavensko pot, above which the forest slowly starts to thin. A little higher the path approaches completely the old road connection between Vipava valley and Trnovski gozd plateau. Here a path branches left to Visoki rob and Selovec, while we continue straight on the marked hiking path, which slowly turns somewhat right. Further the forest finally ends, and the path, from which views open towards Veliki rob, Vipava valley and Trstelj, brings us to the last junction on our path. Again we continue right and over a panoramic grassy slope ascend in a few minutes to the summit of Kucelj, from which a view also opens towards Nanos and Golaki.
