Gojače - Veliki Rob

Access to starting point:
From the highway or motorway Nova Gorica - Razdrto, we take the exit Selo, then continue driving on the parallel old road towards Ajdovščina. At the end of the settlement Selo, we turn left and drive across the bridge over the motorway to the nearby industrial zone. Here we continue straight, then arrive at an intersection in Gojače, where we again continue straight. Further, we drive past the cemetery, after which we continue slightly right, then at the next intersection, which is located only a little further from the nearby church, again slightly right. The road then ascends somewhat more steeply and takes us past the last houses in the village to the hunting lodge LD Čaven (Gojače). We park on the large macadam parking lot near the hunting lodge.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we head onto the cart track, along which we notice signs for sv. Pavel, Kucelj and Čaven. The cart track, which goes straight into the forest, begins to ascend moderately and brings us in 5 minutes of walking to a marked junction, where the path from the neighbouring village Malovše joins from the left.
Here we continue right along a nicely traceable but unmarked cart track, which continues through increasingly sparse forest, ascending to the next marked junction. This time we continue along the left cart track (right sv. Pavel and Vrtovin), along which there are signs for Kucelj and sv. Pavel. Just a few 10 m higher, we join a wider cart track and follow it right (left Črniče). We then ascend the mentioned cart track for about 10 minutes, then arrive at the next junction, where signs for Kucelj direct us right onto a somewhat narrower cart track, to which soon from the right joins the path by which we would arrive if somewhat lower we continued in the direction of sv. Pavel and Vrtovina. Ahead we cross right for some time, then the path brings us to a larger trough. From here we continue briefly through a belt of scrub, then the path brings us to the place where we continue left in the direction of Kuclja (right Školj sv. Pavla).
The path ahead leads through a belt of scrub, then quickly brings us into the forest, where we arrive at the next marked junction. Again we continue in the direction of Kuclja and continue the ascent along the path, which higher crosses the macadam road. The path ahead ascends moderately and soon crosses the road again. At this road crossing, a nice view opens towards Veliki rob, and the path immediately returns to the forest, through which it ascends moderately for a few more minutes. Higher, the path turns right and descends briefly to the nearby junction, where we join the path from Vrtovina.
The path ahead begins to ascend steeply through the forest, through which we then ascend for quite some time. Higher, we cross the Srednječavenska pot, above which the forest begins to thin gradually. A little higher still, the path approaches completely the old road connection between the Vipava Valley and the Trnovski gozd plateau.
Just at the spot where we approach the mentioned road or cart track completely, we leave the mountain path leading to Kucelj and continue the ascent along the road, along which we begin to ascend obliquely to the left. After good 10 minutes of walking, the road levels out and brings us to the edge of the plateau, where from the right joins the path leading from the Koča na Čavnu hut via Kucelj to Veliki rob.
From here we continue a few more 10 m along the poor road, then signs for Veliki rob direct us left onto a footpath, which begins gradually to ascend the southern slopes of Trnovski gozd. The occasionally very scenic path higher withdraws somewhat to the right from the ridge and passes into dense forest for a short time, where from the right the path from Krnica joins. After a short descent, the path begins to ascend again, bringing us from the forest into a belt of dwarf pines, where it then continues along and beside the occasionally quite steep ridge. We follow this path, from which beautiful views open up, all the way to Veliki rob.
