Access to starting point:
We drive into Baška grapa or to the settlement Grahovo ob Bači, where we turn onto a side road in the direction of Zakojce, Bukovo and the railway station. A short descent follows, and after crossing the railway track, we go left towards Bukovo (right railway station Grahovo) and begin to ascend. An ascent in a few hairpin turns follows, when we arrive at a crossroads where the road branches off sharply to the right to the nearby and from the road visible homestead Brelih; that is where the described path begins. We park at a suitable place beside the road about 200 meters further in the direction towards Bukovo, or already lower beside the road.
We can also reach the starting point on foot from the railway station Grahovo, for which we need approximately 30 minutes.
Path description:
From the crossroads near the homestead Brelih we continue sharply to the right and walk to the mentioned homestead, behind it we continue on the cart track which ascends transversely across the grassy slope and leads towards the homestead Pušnik. During the ascent across the grassy slope a nice view opens up on Baška grapa and the peak Kotel on the other side of the valley, and we also go past the information board of the themed trail Na svoji zemlji. Higher we reach the western to north-western ridge, where the path turns left, but we continue on the cart track.
Here a nice view opens up on Črvov vrh, at the fork we choose the left cart track, along which in a few minutes of further walking we arrive at the homestead Pušnik.
We bypass the residential house on the right side, then from the cart track we go left over the pasture fence (the path that continues straight is practically impassable due to the sleet in February 2014). A little further the footpath temporarily ends, and we continue across the grassy slope roughly towards the east to southeast, where a followable little path soon appears. The path soon turns left and then ascends transversely across the hay meadow to the forested ridge, where it turns right. We continue on the followable forest path, which higher turns left and crosses the slopes.
We do not cross for long when we reach the indistinct ridge, where with some attention we notice a cairn which directs us right, up the slope or ridge straight upwards, and in places traces of predecessors can be sensed. The pathless ascent lasts only a few minutes and we already reach a newer cart track, which we follow to the right. Here first a nice view opens up which reaches all the way to Matajur, a little further the previously mentioned path, difficult to pass due to sleet, joins from the right. From here we walk a few more steps along the cart track, then go left from it onto the grassy slope of Bukovski vrh (if we continue straight we can ascend to Črvov vrh). An ascent follows up the mentioned grassy slope, where after easier pathless terrain and crossing a few pasture fences, in a few minutes we ascend to the panoramic Bukovski vrh.
Description and pictures refer to the condition in February 2020.
