Access to starting point:
In Hungary we reach the town of Pečuha / Pécs (best via Croatia, motorway Zagreb-Serdanci-Osijek-Beli Manastir, then across the border crossing Banatsko Petrovo Selo). We then drive towards Budapest, but only about ten kilometres until we spot the signs for Hetinj / Hosszúhetény. In the town we park in a suitable place.
Path description:
In Hetinj we notice yellow markers on the electricity poles. These direct us from the main road eastwards along Teleki dülő street. We soon leave the settlement and continue among the vineyards.
The path then begins to ascend gently to moderately among the vineyards and leads us higher into a short forest stretch. After leaving the forest we continue walking among vineyards for some time, then the path becomes quite steep.
The steepness soon eases, the path reaches the ridge where we pass through a belt of spruce forest, which is quite muddy during and after rain. At the end of the level section a path marked with a blue triangle joins from the left.
The path then climbs steeply; when it levels out we reach the main ridge where some views open through the treetops. The path then turns sharply right and continues eastwards.
A gentle to moderate ascent follows and past a stone cross we reach the summit, where there are ruins of a former fortress and a huge observation tower offering an exceptional view.
