Access to starting point:
a) We drive to Kamnik, then follow the signs for Kamniška Bistrica and Črnivec pass. In Stahovica at the traffic light intersection we turn left towards Kamniška Bistrica (straight ahead Črnivec pass) and drive to Dom v Kamniški Bistrici. We bypass the mountain hut on the right side. The asphalt ends a little higher up, from there we continue on a gravel road that soon forks. We keep to the lower left road (right leads to a footpath towards Kokrsko sedlo), and at further intersections we follow the signs for Jermanca or Kamniško sedlo. We park before the last left bend, as further driving is prohibited by a traffic sign. Driving and parking beyond the traffic sign is prohibited, the fine for violation is 1.000 €. In winter, driving from Koča v Kamniški Bistrici to the Jermanca parking lot is prohibited by a traffic sign, which extends the walk by almost an hour.
b) From the direction of Gornji Grad we drive to Črnivec pass, then start descending towards Kamnik. When we reach Stahovica, at the traffic light intersection we turn right towards Kamniška Bistrica (straight ahead Kamnik) and drive to Dom v Kamniški Bistrici. We bypass the mountain hut on the right side. The asphalt ends a little higher up, from there we continue on a gravel road that soon forks. We keep to the lower left road (right leads to a footpath towards Kokrsko sedlo), and at further intersections we follow the signs for Jermanca or Kamniško sedlo. c) From Luče we drive to Podvolovljek, then on a steep road we ascend to Volovljek pass (the pass is also known as Kranjski Rak after the inn there). From there we start descending towards Kamnik. Lower down we join the road from Črnivec pass, where we turn right downhill. When we reach Stahovica, at the traffic light intersection we turn right towards Kamniška Bistrica (straight ahead Kamnik) and drive to Dom v Kamniški Bistrici. We bypass the mountain hut on the right side. The asphalt ends a little higher up, from there we continue on a gravel road that soon forks. We keep to the lower left road (right leads to a footpath towards Kokrsko sedlo), and at further intersections we follow the signs for Jermanca or Kamniško sedlo. Route description:
From the place where we parked, we continue for a few more minutes along the gravel road. When the road ends, we continue walking along the path that crosses the slopes to the right and a little further joins the marked path that starts at Dom v Kamniški Bistrici.
We continue slightly left in the direction of Kamniško sedlo and at first ascend gently above the stream Sedelšček, then the path becomes steeper and leads us to the junction V Klinu.
We continue along the left marked path (the right path, marked "pot ne vodi na Kamniško sedlo", leads to Repov kot), which continues to ascend more steeply, and higher up leads us to the spring below Brana, which however dries up in dry days.
From the spring, there follows about 15 minutes of ascent through the forest and we arrive at the emergency bivouac Pri pastirjih.
Above the bivouac the path temporarily levels out and leads us to a pleasant scenic meadow, after which we enter a belt of dwarf pines, where it becomes steep again.
When we leave the belt of dwarf pines, we gradually move onto grassy slopes, along which we begin to ascend in numerous switchbacks. In summer heat this part of the path can be quite hot, while in winter it can be very dangerous for slipping. We then follow this increasingly scenic path all the way to Kamniška koča na Kamniškem sedlu. For an even better view, we can walk to the Kamniško sedlo a few minutes away, from which we also get a view towards Logarska dolina.
Starting point - joining the path from the valley 0:15, joining the path from the valley - V Klinu 0:10, V Klinu - Pri Pastirjih 0:50, Pri Pastirjih - Kamniška koča 1:15.

On 23.09.2007 we were at the saddle. Nice trip, suitable also for children, only the path in the last part is quite steep and doesn't let up. At the top, however, a wonderful view of the beauties of the Slovenian mountains. Recommended! Jani

The road to Jermanca is "in principle" not passable. With a normal car you can get to the junction for the goods cable car.
Further it depends. Now that there isn't so much snow yet, and if you have a slightly higher car (SUV and similar) you can get to the end of the road. Otherwise you'll plow the road with your bumper  . Because there are two tracks, and in the middle snow is about 20 cm+. With chains you can get quite far.
For now the footpath is passable without crampons, because the snow is still soft and the track is made, but it's slippery downhill, because it's so trampled that it slides quite a bit and in combination with bad shoes it's not nice to walk.

If you park at the lower parking lot and walk to Jermanca it's time-wise the same as if you park at Jermanca. On foot you're there sooner, what does a few more minutes of walking cost???

thanks for the answers, there's no such panic that I absolutely want to drive to Jermanca ... I haven't been to the saddle at all yet, so based on what's written, I'm a bit scared to walk an hour on the road. Well, but I don't know how it is time-wise in reality.

Kamniški vrh is quite dangerous in winter, because it's much steeper than Kam. sedlo.
Otherwise with normal pace you can reach the saddle in 3 hours. If you're the slower sort, you can shorten the trip and go only to the shepherds at 1400 meters or to Kamrca (BALVAN) at around 1600 meters

Look if you have average fitness you'll get up there probably sooner than in four hours and down much faster than in summer - 2 good hours will be quite enough. Believe me I'm no "racer" myself and I really rarely exceed the marked time 3.45 in winter conditions, in summer it's normally between 2.15-2.30 for me, because if you keep a moderate pace it's completely normal.

Crampons in winter in the high mountains are always in the backpack, whether needed or not. The ice axe goes with them. If you don't know how to use these things I advise against higher and steeper mountains - including Kamniško sedlo - otherwise people have reached many places in winter without any equipment, but some haven't and have left a little too early forever.

You have to be careful the first 500 m from the junction of the path to Kam. Bistrico and the path to Jermanca. There are 3 avalanche paths that end right on the path to the saddle. Almost no one puts crampons on there, although it's quite risky in case of a slip, because you fall straight into the precipice. Be cautious there.
Now while the snow isn't frozen yet you can reach the saddle also without crampons. But be very careful.

Personally, I always carry crampons and ice axe with me.. snowshoes don't stay home either, since you never know when you'll stray a bit off the path, the question followed due to interest from a larger group to join me, but they didn't have gear. That's why the question! Fpetel1 Personally, I don't need lectures on where and how to go to the mountains, but in my humble opinion, forums and trip comments are meant exactly for such questions. Otherwise, others could ask where the sale is or where there's some ruin for fentat, maybe that question would be more appropriate in your opinion. No hard feelings

Today I was at Kamniško sedlo. Started from Jermanca at seven in the morning. I was surprised by the completely full parking lot. I reached the hut extremely quickly - in a good hour and a half. But I was completely exhausted. The hut had an incredibly large number of visitors. It was really windy up there, every time I come here it blows. I'm not ready yet for the nearby peaks, but a couple of years ago I was already everywhere. It's nice to go in good weather further to Planjava, Brana, Na Tursko goro and more could be found. After a good tea and a shot of bilberry brandy, and two written postcards, back down. For the return I usually take almost the same time as for the ascent. Next trip should be Skuta from Suhadolnik. I'm already looking forward to it today!

The tea at K. Sedlo is really good, but expensive. I paid 4.20 EUR for tea with rum. Next time I'll rather take a thermos and čutara up. If you order pečenica or jota, add bread (0.70EUR) to the price, as it's not included in the base price. Otherwise pečenica is really tasty.

The path is not allowed due to the no-entry sign, but everyone drives up anyway, no need to pay unless a blue one shows up.....

Was at Kamniško sedlo yesterday, 3.8.2011 and would say the following: first that when driving to Jermanca it's very poorly signposted where exactly to go, in between it says to Kokrsko sedlo, nothing about Kamniško, no markings until the junction where the path joins the one from below, i.e. from Kamniška Bistrica. The outing is very nice, the ascent is quite big so you have a good 2 hours walk from the spot where you can go furthest by car. Nice view from the top, especially to the other side towards Logarska dolina. Also, on descent I stuck to the left path (but not the one to Planjava) and reached a nice scree down which you descend and in 10 minutes and then really after another 5 minutes through bushes you're just a short distance from Pastirji (1415m). So you save time and get some adrenaline LP

The road to Jermanca is not a marked trail as the previous one mentioned but a forest road that is occasionally repaired which is already a problem here because some don't know how to drive then they undermine and it's full of waves on the road. Otherwise, a real mountaineer leaves the car in the valley and goes on foot along the marked path, which was repaired and newly made last year, and this year new benches were made recently on the Pastirci. I know that some would like to go by car to Kamniško sedlo but thank God it doesn't happen, so nice marking greeting to all mountaineers and safe steps on the marked path to Kamniško sedlo, good luck.

Last weekend I was with a group on Velika planina. Since the plateau is really large, visitors get scattered even though there are thousands. Columns of cars bother me and too few toilets and trash bins.

I warn that the road to Jermanca is closed-sign prohibiting traffic. If we drive up we risk an inspector's ticket. We'd have a ruined day. From the parking at the hut in Kamniška Bistrica it's almost an extra hour to walk, but better to make a nice day without bad mood.

It's true, as velkavrh says. Pity to turn around and risk a fine. The path from the parking to the lower cable car station has its own charm too. But last time when my partner and I first went on this path (she has average fitness), we managed that slope in under half an hour. It's just right for warming up. Good luck and nice trip.

This prohibited parking thing is quite a big stupidity and shows our underdevelopment (mainly in our heads). Such a beautiful valley as the Kamniška Bistrica valley would especially in summer deserve at least a barrier and one euro parking fee for road maintenance and at least limited parking spaces, but instead we fool ourselves that driving is banned for heaven knows what reason, meanwhile everyone drives on the road, anarchy rules, the road is completely ruined. Why?
I would gladly pay a euro especially for loop hikes, since in a 10-12 hour walk one less hour is not negligible, and if the money went to road maintenance, even better.
But this fussing with inspectors who are mostly nowhere and bans no one follows. Sometimes we Slovenes are really petty...

If someone really wants to prohibit traffic,
then just put up a barrier, which today isn't a big cost.. Probably then a problem arises
at the parking lot by the Koča in Kamniška Bistrica, where not everyone can park....
Personally I'm for freeing up traffic, collecting parking fees and using that money to do something.

the last bend "rak rana" has been like that forever. I'm also for arranging the parking lot, collecting toll........but who will do it, because everyone would be cashiers....Let's collect signatures for a petition to demand the arrangement of the parking lot at Jermanca, then we'll see.

There is indeed a sign down there prohibiting in both directions, only sometimes the sign was at the hut, now they moved it higher nearby where the marked path to the saddle starts.

I agree here. But I think collecting toll for a road in that condition would really be usury. I'm immediately for introducing it, but then the road would need to be regularly maintained and possibly some of the steepest sections concreted. That would be fine.

With all these road closures, I miss above all an alternative solution. The easiest is to put up a sign there and prohibit traffic. Then pedestrians either walk or drive and risk a fine. As if someone is testing us, how much we dare. They probably don't put barriers anymore because of the accident in Tamarju.
No one thinks about an alternative solution that would improve the situation in the valley. I remember last year's mobility weekend, when they rented electric bikes in front of Logarska dolina. Very few cars drove into the valley, it was a joy to watch whole families on bikes. Why only one or two days a year? If such or similar alternative (maybe a van transporting hikers) was available all the time (at least in summer), even those few vehicles driving into the valley very early in the morning wouldn't represent major burdens for the valley.
But if we all "rush" into the valleys with vehicles every weekend, we shouldn't be surprised if they close some occasionally. As long as it's like this, they'll just close the valleys, and we'll walk like in the old days.

Instead of developing tourism, we're only suppressing it by closing roads. I'm sure everyone would gladly pay a few € for using the road or parking at Jermanca, which is especially important if you head into the Kamnik Alps on one of the circular-longer tours.

There probably won't be more cars in that area because of asphalt, since "tourists" have nothing to do there. I'm not an expert, but I think driving on asphalt damages the environment less than driving on gravel.
Once again, if someone is serious about closing the road, let them put up a barrier that applies to everyone.......

The bad road deters many from driving to Jermanca. I myself often decide to leave the car in the valley...

Yes, but the point is that even 50% more traffic on a maintained road would certainly have less impact on the environment than the current digging and rutting on gravel. With an appropriate toll, most day-trippers wouldn't be interested in driving up, hikers on long tours for whom that hour matters would have the option.
I think we all need to watch that environmentalism doesn't turn into what I call moralistic environmentalism. That could be summed up in the maxim "every human activity is bad, every wilderness is good". It doesn't hold. Humans have been intervening in the natural environment since forever and today there's actually much more wilderness than before. So it makes no sense to forbid humans access to the natural environment (even by car), but rather to limit and regulate it. And God forbid, banning traffic at 600 meters in a high mountain starting point is quite fascist. Jermanca and Žagana peč are in an okay location and I think the road could be arranged so that you could drive up safely and reliably, with organized parking also minimizing impact on nature.
tol, and if the bad road deters you from driving to Jermanca, that Texas above the hut will deter me sooner from going to Kamniška Bistrica at all. If I'm heading towards Kokrsko sedlo, I much prefer starting in Kokra anyway, Kamniško is a problem, but - there's really nothing up there that's so unforgettable beautiful ...

I would fascistly arrange the closure of the road in KB already at the gondola to Velika planina, for hiking starting points let some environmentally acceptable vehicle drive.... why not market pristine nature? Why degrade the environment. If you like that, just go to the neighbors and drive up to 2000 m + by car.
Regarding your scientific opinion on human intervention in nature, I won't waste words at all...

If I remember correctly, the road is eroded due to rain, downpours that wash away the road, and not because of cars. The responsible ones should maintain the road and it will be without issues.lp

The road is eroded due to traffic. People just don't know how to drive on steep gravel. Tires dig in, brake abruptly...and waves form...

Why should we always and everywhere drive as close as possible to the goal? Less than 45 minutes from the parking lot in front of the house in KB to Jermanca or the cable car to Cojzovo is just right for a person to warm up a bit and enjoy the morning beauties of the surrounding mountains before entering numerous starting points to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
Otherwise, the Kamnik Alps, like all other Alps in our country, have their own charm, which you have to feel, not see.

It's quite far, if you go to Planjava and also to Brana you make about 2200m elevation gain. It's still better to drive higher than to risk a fall on those rocks above the hut due to fatigue and call GRS.

I would add that some of us have to drive to these beautiful alpine valleys from Prekmurje or Prlekija, about 2.5 hours, do a 6.7-hour hike, then drive home tired (another 2.5 hours). It's not always possible (time or financial) to stay overnight. For those of us coming from so far, that hour to Jermanca means a lot, and not because of our own laziness. Many hikes are still out of reach for us distant ones (kids can't manage, fuel prices...)
But it's nice to drive half an hour, park and hike all day, then be home in half an hour.
We would gladly pay for parking and drive on a maintained road, like in Austria, Switzerland and elsewhere.

Regarding the road to Jermanca, I would just add that since I stayed overnight in the hut, I had quite significant sleeping problems. The thing is, when I returned from the hills in the evening, columns upon columns of cars started waking me up from 4 a.m. onwards, literally racing towards Jermanca. I think it would be considerate of all of us who go to the mountains to at least drive more slowly past the hut, because it's really crazy in that regard. After all, the best would be to suggest to the state to build a highway to Kamniško sedlo...
Like this, a little food for thought for everyone who likes going to the mountains, I'd also add that when I go to the mountains, I take time for it... so those 45 minutes mean absolutely nothing to me, plus you have to pay 11 euros for sleeping with a membership card, so think about what's more sensible

Let me add my thought and view. Jermanca should be open! As it always was. Walkers who go to see the memorial park have a marked path and no need to walk on the road. For us who want to quickly jump into the mountains after work, Jermanca is the only option to conquer a peak, especially now when days will be short again. You already have to cycle from the saddle. hiked this path today, the road is open, lots of cars at/on Jermanca, no fines. I left it a bit lower by a clearing where there's also an observation point, the road to here is more than decent, to the Jermanca parking it's 5 minutes walk.

If you have a 4x4 you can drive to the junction Žagana peč x Jermanca. Further on it won't go, or I don't recommend it. The bottom layer is icy. You might still crawl up, but it'll be more tricky coming down.

Hurry up! We went with my girl to Kamniško sedlo, right near Bistrc our girl, come on go to Jermanca, she thought it was 3:45, we tried anyway. I was also quite knackered. Well, I parked a couple of km or two before Jermanca, no point damaging the car now, and she already started getting dark, didn't want to walk where the cat might have dragged it at night. I told her drink more, pour for others too if you're picnicking. She got smashed to a hundred mothers, where Real wins football, ours is for Real... Well we somehow climbed up in 3 hours and even got second wind. Up action, some end to rain, we started snogging, omg it was flat out, I said if this crisis doesn't last... We were already dancing with climbers, one of ours charmed her so much master hooked her with carabiner. I said master hook her, just don't accidentally ice axe from pants glance... big green smile. Nothing, down all loaded, we drove wild. In between argued about parking.. now sleep, tomorrow at 5am to Milano meeting...
Oh for all those every trail interests, tree branches in places reach path and also grass and bushes, that's why I got ticks too!!! Don't let babe check when pig comes... take care

Actually, the pictures shown do not depict the parking lot where one actually parks.. ok, sure, you can park there, but you can also park higher up, where on the left you see a meadow and you're under the open sky (no more forest).
but WATCH OUT!!!!
Don't drive to Jermanca if you have a car with low clearance. Because it's a macadam road and in some sections VERY VERY potholed.. and even if you move millimeter by millimeter, you'll hit the ground with the undercarriage. One left bend (going uphill) is also such that I wasn't sure if the car would even make it or not..
But that's not the biggest doubt.. it somehow gets there.. but the terrain - potholes.. in some sections it's really desperate.
Anyway, I hope I've helped someone save their car

If the time is meant from this sign or from the end of the road it's not that important, because from the sign to the end of the road (where parking was already reserved for interventions earlier) is no more than 10 min of relaxed walking.
I think the estimate of 2:30 from the sign to the hut is quite realistic for an average hiker. Otherwise, regarding time here, the path from Klin onwards is constantly ascending and you can efficiently gain altitude, while to Klin it's mostly flat and a bit up and down, which adds about 10 min (compared to what you would otherwise need for that elevation difference). So you'll get the best time estimate by estimating how much you need for a good 900 m of elevation gain (you'll know that best yourself) and add 10 min.
If it happens that the parking lot at the sign is already full (there's not much space) and you have to park below at the meadow, this doesn't extend the path by more than 5 min.
