Jesenovo - Črni vrh (Čemšeniška planina) (Špura)

Access to starting point:
From highway Ljubljana - Celje we go to the exit Trojane. Further, we continue in the direction of Zagorje and the road then runs through the tunnel V Zideh after which we will get to the spot, where the road towards the village Šentgotard branches off to the left upwards. At the end of the village Šentgotard we come to a crossroad, where we continue right in the direction of village Čemšenik (left - Prvine). The road then runs through the village Dobrljevo, after which we arrive in Čemšenik. We continue to follow the main road, which starts descending slightly. At the crossroads, we first follow the signs for Zagorje and then for the village Jesenovo. The road, which starts ascending again, we follow to the village Jesenovo. As we drive through the village, we can notice a large cross on the left side above the village, which will later help us with orientation. In the village itself, there aren’t many parking options. There is little space near the information board by the bus stop.

Path description:
From the bus stop in the village Jesenovo we continue on the asphalt road through the village. The road ascends and brings us to a crossroad, where a road branches off to the right towards the villages Vrhe and Znojile. We continue straight upwards and at the next crossroad, where sand for icy conditions is located, we turn left. We continue walking on the asphalt road, from which, occasionally between houses, a view opens towards the large cross above the village, which can serve as an orientation point. We soon reach a crossroad where an asphalt road branches off to the right upwards. We proceed onto the aforementioned road. At the start of the mentioned road, paved cart tracks branch off to the left and right, but we continue straight on the steep asphalt road. Before the last house, we turn left from the asphalt road onto a cart track. At the beginning, the cart track is grassy and consequently less visible. After just a few meters, the cart track becomes clearly visible and ascends quite steeply, leading us to the previously mentioned cross above the village.
At the cross, we take a footpath that continues to ascend quite steeply through the forest in a northwest direction. After a diagonal ascent, we reach a crossing where a narrower footpath named Vikčeva pot branches off to the left towards the church of St. Primož.
We continue to the right and, after a short ascent, reach another crossing where a cart track also branches off to the left towards the mentioned church. We continue right and proceed along the cart track in a northeast direction. At a small clearing, we arrive at another crossing.
To the left upwards leads a cart track, one of the paths towards the mountain hut on Čemšeniška planina, but we continue on the right lower cart track. We continue walking in the northeast direction, mostly gently ascending through the forest. Soon, another cart track branches off sharply to the left, which later joins the previously mentioned one. We continue in the same direction, and the cart track becomes gentler, leading us through a dense spruce forest. This cart track brings us to the next crossing. This time, we take the left cart track, which ascends slightly and leads us to resting place Počivališče na Ošivki. Here, there is a crossroad of several cart tracks, and nearby, there is a bivouac with numerous gnomes and Snow White.
We leave the cart tracks and proceed past the Snow White and the gnomes onto a narrow, somewhat less worn footpath. The footpath begins to ascend quite steeply straight through the forest. The path then crosses another cart track and brings us to signposts at the start of the Špura path.
The path ascends straight upwards here, with a rope assisting the climb. This path then leads to a rockier section where warning signs are located. Due to the danger of falling rocks, the use of a helmet and self-belaying is mandatory. The secured path is rated with a difficulty level of B/C.
From the warning signs, we ascend steeply on rocky terrain with the help of steel cables, while another footpath on the left allows bypassing the more difficult section. The steepness eases slightly for a short time, and the path along the steel cable leads us to a large boulder. Here, we have two options again. We can ascend directly over a short vertical jump or take a slightly easier variant on the right. After a few meters, the paths rejoin, and the more challenging climbing section soon ends.
Further on, the slope remains quite steep, and the path continues straight upwards, with a rope still assisting the ascent. Higher up, the path leads past the „Klopca Ljubezni“ bench, offering a very scenic view.
For a short time, we continue steeply ascending through the forest, then reach a marked path and a crossing below Črni vrh.
To the left, a marked path leads towards the mountain hut on Čemšeniška planina, which we will use to return to the valley. Before that, we pass the cottage of amateur radio operators and ascend to the nearby Črni vrh, where a large cairn is located.
We descend along the mentioned marked path to the mountain hut on Čemšeniška planina. At the mountain hut, the closest descent is to the left on an unmarked path that begins at the antennas south of the hut.
