Access to starting point:
A) From Dravograd we drive in the direction of the border crossing Vič, from which we continue driving to the settlement Labot / Lavamünd, where we turn left towards Celovec / Klagenfurt. The road leads us all the way to the settlement Grebinj / Griffen, where we go onto the highway A2. We continue driving on the highway all the way to Beljak / Villach, where we go onto the highway A10. After a little less than 30 km we go to the exit, which leads to the settlement Radenthein. In Radenthein we have to follow the signs for Kaning. A little before the settlement we park on one of the two arranged parking lots by the Türkhaus inn.
B) From the Gorenjska side we drive through the Karawanks Tunnel and continue on the highway in the direction of Beljak. From here we follow the above description.
Path description:
From the parking lot a signpost directs us over a bridge onto the arranged themed walking path along the river Rossbach, Mühlenwanderweg. At first we walk gently uphill along its left bank, then a few times over bridges we step onto the other bank, until we reach the first mountain pasture at the beginning of the valley Langalmtal. Here we go once again over the bridge onto the right bank, and the path after a short steep section brings us onto a macadam road. We follow it all the time past Aichholzerhütte, behind which at the junction it soon ends. To the left over the bridge across the stream the supply road to Erlacherhütte joins, but our path continues along the cart track to the nearby mountain pasture, then to the inn Petodnighaus, where we step back onto the road. The path then goes along the road past the homestead Kreuwzwirthütte, where it rises slightly, further to the junction, where we can choose any variant. Soon we are at the hut Erlacherhütte, to which we can drive from Kaning.
The path then leads around the hut along the road to a junction, where a signpost directs us to the right, while to the left the path continues past the lake Nassbodensee to Grosser Rosennock. The road starts to ascend more steeply, after a few longer or shorter hairpin turns we step onto the mountain pasture with the hut Erlacher Bockhütte, where the road ends. The path then across the mountain pasture soon leads us to the foot of the south ridge of Pfannock. This is followed by a steady ascent almost to the saddle between Pfannock and Predigerstuhl. A little below it we arrive at a junction, where we turn left onto the eastern slopes of our goal. This is followed by a longer traverse towards the summit plateau, with a few short zigzags. Upon reaching the plateau the path after a short ascent and descent, unobtrusively bypassing the highest point, brings us to the summit.
Descent is possible along the ascent path, or we can decide to descend across the plateau to the west to the saddle with Kleiner Rosennock (2361 m), from which a slightly more demanding descent follows, or directly to Erlacherhütte, or a traverse to the lake Nassbodensee and then past Feldhütte along the road back.
On the way: Erlacherhütte (1636m), Erlacher Bockhütte (1938m)
