Knödelhütte - Saureishütte

Access to starting point:
We leave the A2 highway Klagenfurt - Graz at the Packsattel exit. When near the pass we reach the old Klagenfurt - Graz road and turn left; shortly after at the pass, we turn left again toward the Knödelhütte hut. This is followed by driving on a slightly narrower asphalt road. A little higher, the road splits, and we continue on the right gravel road, beside which there is a barrier. To continue driving, it is necessary to pay a fee of 2 euros (July 2023); then, on the gravel road, we reach the Knödelhütte hut, where we park.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we first walk to the hut, then cross a grazing fence onto the path toward the Bernsteinhütte hut, Peterer Sattel saddle, and Salzstiegel pass. At first, we ascend fairly easily through the pasture, then the path enters the forest, where it remains easy. Further on at a few smaller junctions, we follow the blazes; when we reach a marked junction, we go straight toward the Peterer Sattel saddle (slightly right Bernsteinhütte hut). A little further, we reach the next junction, where we also continue straight (left Unterauerlinger Hütte hut, right Bernsteinhütte hut).
Next follows the crossing of a grazing fence, and we bypass the Bernsteinhütte hut on the left side. Next follows a moderate ascent along the edge of the grazing area, and the path a little higher splits again.
To the left leads the path toward the Görlitzerhütte and Schrotthütte huts, and we continue straight, where a few minutes higher we leave the sparse forest. Next follows a fairly even moderate ascent along a panoramic grassy ridge; when the path levels out, on the right side only three minutes from the path we notice a cross on the south summit of Hirschegger Alm. The marked path bypasses the mentioned summit on the left side, and we quickly descend to the nearby saddle, where there is a marked junction.
From the saddle, we continue slightly right toward the Sauerishütte hut and Seinerkreuz summit (left Görlitzerhütte hut, straight Peterer Sattel) and from the ridge pass onto grassy slopes, which we cross to the right. The path, which continues without pronounced ascents or descents, brings us after some time to a grazing fence, which we cross, and on the other side continue toward the Sauerishütte hut (here another path joins us from the left, which branches off somewhat higher from the path toward the Peterer Sattel saddle). The path ahead leads us over a small pass, after which we begin to descend laterally through sparse forest. Lower down, we cross two more streams and arrive at the Sauerishütte hut.
