Knödelhütte - Unterauerlinger Hütte

Access to starting point:
Highway A2 Klagenfurt - Graz we leave at the Packsattel exit. When near the mountain pass, we reach the old Klagenfurt - Graz road and turn left; shortly after at the pass, we turn left again toward the Knödelhütte cottage. Next follows driving on a slightly narrower asphalt road. A little higher, the road splits, and we continue on the right macadam road, beside which there is a gate. To continue driving, it is necessary to pay a fee of 2 euros (July 2023); then, on the macadam road, we reach the Knödelhütte cottage, where we park.

Path description:
From the parking lot, we first walk to the mountain hut, then follow the path towards the white hiking signposts pointing to the mountain hut Unterauerlinger Hütte. We continue on a rougher road that crosses a grazing fence, where we notice signs indicating we are entering the wolf's habitat. Next, we traverse slopes to the left, walking on a wider cart track with minimal changes in altitude initially. This is followed by a short, moderate ascent on the cart track; as the path becomes grassier, it flattens again, and when it enters the forest, the cart track ends. Further on, we walk on a footpath that soon crosses a stream; after the stream, we ascend briefly, then begin descending on a cart track while continuing to traverse the slopes to the left. Lower down, the cart track flattens and leads us out of the forest onto grazing areas near the mountain hut Unterauerlinger Hütte. From here, about 100 meters of walking remain, and we arrive at the aforementioned mountain hut.
