Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, we take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and then towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev laz), where we reach a junction and continue straight along the left (southern) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and Savica Waterfall. We then follow this increasingly narrow road to the large parking lot at Koča pri Savici. The parking lot is chargeable.
Route description:
From the parking lot we head onto the wide hiking path in the direction of Savica Waterfall and Dom na Komni (right path across Komarča). Already after a short gentle ascent the path brings us to a marked junction, where the tourist path to Savica Waterfall branches off to the right, while we continue slightly left or straight on the wide hiking path towards Komna. The path ahead ascends along Savica for a short while, then brings us to the first of the marked 48 serpentines. After an hour and a half of moderate ascent through the forest, the path brings us to the mentioned 48th serpentine, from which a beautiful view of Lake Bohinj opens up. Here the path turns slightly to the right and enters the valley called Pekel, where it ascends gently for some time, then turns right and ascends somewhat steeper again. After just a few dozen steps the path turns left again and continues ascending parallel to the valley. The further gentle to moderately steep path gradually transitions into sparser forest, from which we soon see Dom na Komni. The path ahead leads us past a smaller interesting cave, higher up it brings us to a junction where the path to Črno jezero branches off to the right, while we continue left and proceed on the wide path. This is followed by some transversal ascent; at a natural abyss fenced for safety the path turns right, then ascends to the next junction, where the path from Črno jezero joins us.
A little further the path branches once more, we choose the left path towards Dom na Komni, or we can take the slightly shorter path that continues straight and bypasses Dom na Komni (right Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih).
This is followed by an ascent past the hut Pri Hubertu and in a few minutes we reach Dom na Komni.
From Dom na Komni we go past a small chapel and follow the signs for Koča pod Bogatinom (left Vogel, Tolminski Kuk and Planina Govnjač), we soon join the previously mentioned slightly shorter path.
We continue slightly left towards Koča pod Bogatinom and along the wide and fairly scenic path we quickly arrive at Planina na Kraju, where passing the pyramid (ossuary at Koča pod Bogatinom – mountain memorial) we reach Koča pod Bogatinom, which is located in the middle of the pasture.
We bypass the hut on the right side and quickly arrive at a marked junction, where the path across Lepa Komna branches off to the right, leading further towards Lanževica or Oslova škrbina, while we continue straight, still on the wider gentle path towards Bogatinsko sedlo. On the western part of Planina na Kraju another path branches off to the left towards Planina Govnjač, while we continue for a few more minutes in a light ascent along the southern side of Kozlov rob. The path ahead flattens completely for some time and enters the edge of the Gracija valley, where we begin to ascend transversely, first along the slopes of Srednji vrh, later along the slopes of the forepeak Vrh nad Gracijo. In the continuation the path becomes somewhat steeper and with beautiful views brings us to the place where it branches.
We can continue on the mulatiera that makes a longer serpentine or take the slightly shorter steep path that ascends directly to Bogatinsko sedlo, where both paths join.
From the junction at Bogatinsko sedlo, from where a beautiful view of Krn and the surrounding mountains opens up, we head left towards Bogatin and Mahavšček (straight down Lepena, Prehodci, Krn, Krnsko jezero and Koča pri Krnskem jezeru, right Lanževica).
The path that continues south quickly brings us to the northern slopes of Bogatin, where we begin a steep ascent, soon reaching the northwestern ridge of the mountain, where we ascend on crumbly terrain. Due to the considerable steepness greater caution is needed so as not to slip, and the danger of falling rocks is increased, especially if someone is above us. Higher up the steepness eases, the ridge narrows and flattens, and only a few dozen steps of scenic walking remain to the summit of Bogatin or Mali Bogatin.
Starting point – turnoff to Črno jezero 2:15, turnoff to Črno jezero – Memorial plaque to Matej Koblar 0:10, Memorial plaque to Matej Koblar – Dom na Komni 0:05, Dom na Komni – Koča pod Bogatinom 0:15, Koča pod Bogatinom – Bogatinsko sedlo 1:15, Bogatinsko sedlo – Bogatin 0:30.

Along the route: Jama ob poti na Komno (1303m), Odcep k Črnemu jezeru (1411m), Brezno pod lovsko kočo na Komni (1430m), Spominska plošča Mateju Koblarju (1481m), Pri Hubertu (1492m),
Dom na Komni (1520m), Piramida (1520m),
Koča pod Bogatinom (1513m), Bogatinsko sedlo (1803m)

Discussion about the trip Koča pri Savici - Bogatin (via Bogatinsko sedlo)

Today I tried my "luck" but snow below the gate ruined it... it sank through the crust, under the crust powder snow... 1 step up 3 down... But weather was 1A with a plus! Lp, Matevž

10.8.2008 was again the day when we could go to our beautiful mountains. We chose Bogatin as the goal. When we set off from the Koča pri Savici there was still low cloud cover that accompanied us almost to the Koča pod Bogatinom. Nevertheless, the air was such that it dictated easy walking. At the hut we fortified ourselves with tea, then I went alone towards Bogatin, which was enveloped in clouds. Nives preferred to stay at the hut and bask in the warm sun rays. Due to the dense cloud cover, despite the plan, I didn't climb the nearby Mahavšček either, as it was also in thick clouds. I would mention that there is no logbook in the box at the top of Bogatin, which there could be. I also didn't find a stamp, though I don't know if there is one or not. When I returned to the hut, the clouds dispersed and the warm sun shone. We then went to the Koča na Komni, which was quite full. Since we had no intention of partying, we slowly headed towards our starting point. Despite the clouds, it was a beautiful and successful day behind us. Brane and Nives

In mid-September we climbed to Bogatin along the path described here and then on to Mahavšček and via Planina Gavnač back to the valley. We had excellent weather and spent a wonderful day. More about impressions here.

Yesterday we did this trip. Up to Komna we met about 10 hikers, further on no living soul to see/hear. But so cold!!!, strong NW wind at the saddle, views of fog and clouds were beautiful .

Today from Koča pri Savici over Bogatin to Mahavšček and back. Wonderful day, exceptional views, beautiful nature, few people. At the top of Bogatin and Mahavšček no stamps, they have them at Koča pod Bogatinom.

@kowachko there is a stamp at Mahavšček. It is concreted on a rock, about 2 to 3 meters away from the box. You probably didn't notice it, there is also a mark next to the stamp.

Hello; Has anyone hiked through Komna and then on to Bogatinsko sedlo; I'm interested in how much snow there is, is the path perhaps trodden, are snowshoes needed? I plan a trip next weekend if the weather is right Thanks for info

Today I was at Bogatinsko sedlo. Snowshoes are not needed, crampons are mandatory. Towards the summit it was quite hard in the morning. Halfway from Komna we turned back to the valley because a little ahead of us a hiker slipped, but she got away with it well.

Does anyone know when the cross near the hut under Bogatin was erected? Two years ago I was walking from Krn to Komna and noticed a cross a little below the hut under Bogatin. Why did they put it there a bit off the path so you don't even see it unless you happen to go nearby.

If I have the right information, there was a cemetery at the site where the cross is during WWI. There was also an option to build a chapel. Correct me if I'm wrong. Best regards

Of course without clouds, so that it can be seen well In fog we would hardly recognize each other Let it be in snow too

Laik, at the place where the cross is, there was a military chapel during the 1st World War. Original steps are still visible today. Every year there is a mass at this place at the end of the summer season.

3 years have passed since I was on Bogatin. I wanted to cross to Mahavšček too, but on the crumbly terrain I didn't have poles, so I combined the tour with Lanževica. The path was in good condition and the views were excellent.
