Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, we take the Lesce exit and follow the road towards Bled and further towards Bohinjska Bistrica. We continue driving towards Lake Bohinj (Ribčev Laz), where we arrive at a crossroads, where we continue straight along the left (southern) side of the lake in the direction of Ukanc and Savica waterfall. We then follow this increasingly narrow road to the large parking lot at Koča pri Savici. The parking lot is paid.
Path description:
From the parking lot, head right in the direction of Črno jezero, Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih, and Hotel Zlatorog (straight ahead Slap Savica and Dom na Komni). The path initially leads along a gravel road that crosses the Savica River over a bridge. Just a little after the bridge, the signs for Komarča direct us left (straight Hotel Zlatorog) onto an initially still quite wide and relatively gentle forest path. The path soon begins to climb more steeply and brings us a bit higher to a place where the path to the Savica source and Velika Savica cave branches left, but we continue right on the increasingly steep path.
The well-maintained and relatively wide mountain path soon transitions to very steep and slippery slopes of Komarča, where there is also a great danger of falling rocks. The path then climbs steeply along the mostly forested wall of Komarča, where safety devices, mainly steel cables, help us in the more difficult places.
Higher up, some views of Bohinj open from the path, and the path brings us to a short technically demanding spot, where with the help of staples and steel cable we traverse an otherwise not very exposed gully. The path then climbs steeply for some time and, with the help of some safety devices, brings us to the edge of Komarča, from where a beautiful view opens to our starting point. Followed by a short moderately steep ascent, then the path begins to descend gently towards Črno jezero, which we reach after less than five minutes of further walking.
Near the lake is a marked junction, where the path to Planina Viševnik and Pršivec branches right, but we continue slightly left and continue on the marked path, which bypasses Črno jezero on the right side. On the other side of the lake, the path from Dom na Komni joins from the left, but we continue on the relatively gentle path that continues along the edge of Lopučniška dolina. Higher up, the path begins to climb moderately and brings us to a small spring along the edge of overhanging cliffs, which however dries up in dry periods.
We continue on the marked path, which near Bela skala turns sharply right and climbs steeply. Followed by a few minutes of steep ascent, then the path flattens and brings us to a marked junction, where the path from Planina Blato joins from the right, namely the path over Prode. We continue left in the direction of Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih and continue on the relatively gentle path, which after ten minutes of further walking brings us to Dvojno jezero. The marked path bypasses the lake on the right side and before we reach the other side brings us to a junction, where the path to Štapce and Mala Tičarica branches right.
We continue right in the direction of Štapce and Mala Tičarica (straight Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih, five minutes) and climb through a belt of sparse forest that ends among the dwarf pines. Followed by a short ascent through the dwarf pines, then the relatively steep path continues over scree. The increasingly scenic path quickly brings us below the walls of Štapce, where it turns right and becomes technically somewhat more demanding. With the help of a ladder and steel cable, we climb transversely over a smaller wall, then the path brings us to a notch, where it turns left. Followed by a short secured steep ascent and the path flattens on the Štapce pass, where there is a marked junction.
At Štapce, we continue left in the direction of Tičarica and Zelnarica (right Planina Ovčarija and Koča na Planini pri Jezeru) and continue the ascent on the path that first climbs through a belt of dwarf pines, then brings us to a short steep and especially in wet slippery jump. Above the jump, the path flattens and transitions to moderately steep grassy slopes, on which after a few minutes of further walking we ascend to a small saddle, where the marked path to Mala Tičarica branches left, to which it is approximately ten minutes of ascent.
We continue in the direction of Zelnarica on a relatively gentle path that first traverses the slopes of Mala and then Velika Tičarica. Just a few tens of meters after the inscription "Ne trgaj cvetja!" (inscription on the wall), we leave the marked path and continue the ascent left on pathless terrain upward. We climb on a grassy slope towards the ridge of Velika Tičarica. In the upper part of the ascent towards the ridge, the slope becomes quite steep and also dangerous for slipping. On this although short part of the ascent, great caution is needed.
When we reach the ridge, we continue left and on a somewhat less demanding slope soon reach the summit of Velika Tičarica.
