Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Kočevje, then we look for Podgorska ulica (which branches off to the right from the main road - direction of travel towards Delnice). At the end of the mentioned street we will notice hiking signposts and next to them a nicely arranged parking lot.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we walk to a well-marked junction, then continue right in the direction of Kalanova pot (left Grajska pot). The marked path, which initially runs along the road, soon leaves it and continues left through the forest. Further on, we ascend along the path where the steepness increases, and it crosses the forest road several times. Higher up, the steepness eases and the path joins the forest road, along which we continue the ascent. The road soon starts to descend and brings us in a few steps to a marked junction, where we continue straight in the direction of the Koča pri Jelenovem studencu hut (left Mestni vrh, right Ledenik).
From the junction to the hut, we have only a few minutes of easy walking.
From the hut, we continue in the direction of Kočevska Reka and Ledena jama cave along a cart track, which in a few steps of ascent brings us to a macadam road. We only cross the mentioned road, as the signs for Ledena jama cave direct us onto a footpath that runs parallel to the road. After a few minutes of walking through the forest, we return to the macadam road, which we follow to the right, but only to the next junction.
We continue right in the direction of Ledena jama cave (left Požgani hrib) along a cart track that with a few shorter ascents and descents brings us to the information board near the cave. From the board, we descend along the marked path, which in less than a minute of further walking brings us to the cave entrance.
Descent into the cave due to considerable steepness without appropriate equipment is not recommended.
