Access to starting point:
Leave the A1 motorway at the Split exit, then proceed along the expressway following signs for the Split ferry terminal. Buy tickets there for Vis island. After a 2.5-hour ferry ride, arrive in Vis town, follow signs for Komiža. The road leads to a junction above Vis town, continue straight on the shorter road to Komiža (left is the longer road along the southern part of the island). The road passes over the saddle between Mali Hum and Orlovica. The winding road leads along steep slopes to a junction where the road to Komiža center branches right, where the described trail starts. Park at the junction. Can also park below the church of St. Nicholas, extending the walk by about 10 minutes.
Path description:
From the starting point continue briefly along the road towards Vis, leave it at the bend. Direction signs lead to a steep asphalt road. After a few minutes marking directs right onto overgrown trail. After about 10 minutes walking on path with some thorns, return to main road crossing it diagonally. Direction signs to somewhat better trodden path. Path ascends steadily on right side of small valley. After 20 minutes path crosses valley and ascends steeply. Path makes switchbacks. Path rocky in places. Follow markings carefully to avoid side paths. Path crosses slope of Orlovica then to slope of Sveti Duh. Summit of Hum visible all the time. Path steeper with switchbacks, after about half hour to edge where it levels. Soon to gravel path from road to Hum, turn left and in minutes at chapel of Sveti Duh with fine views all around. Hum summit inaccessible due to military area.
From chapel continue on unmarked path to visible antenna. Path to cart track, continue left to end at antenna. Then at edge find start of overgrown trail. Follow cautiously along edge first, then slight descent away from edge. Follow trail gently ascending slope back to edge, soon right passage through dense trees. Through junipers soon to panoramic summit Orlovica. Trail hard to follow orientationally.
