First, we drive to Kranjska Gora, then we follow the signs for the Kranjska Gora ski slopes. We park on a large parking lot at the foot of the Kranjska Gora ski slopes.
Path description:
From the parking lot, we continue in the direction of Ciprnik, first on metal stairs and past a stand where they sell tickets. At the stand we notice also signs for Bedančev dom, to which we have 45 minutes of ascent. Next follows one more ascent on metal stairs, then we arrive at the bottom station of the four-seater chairlift Vitranc I, and we continue a little to the right of the cableway, on a macadam road which starts to ascend beside the ski slope (in summer the summer sledding area Besna Pehta). Further on, we ascend on the mentioned road, higher we can temporarily leave it, since slightly to the left, beside the summer sledding area, a cart track continues, which higher returns to the road. When we return to the road, a good 10 minutes of careful walking separate us (careful because a cyclist may come towards us, as they have their track here) and we already arrive at the upper station of the four-seater chairlift Vitranc I and a few dozen steps further to Bedančev dom.
A little above Bedančev dom we notice the next yellow tourist signs, and we follow them in the direction of Vitranc and Ciprnik, so still along the road. Further on, the road ascends in a few turns, then brings us to the part of the Kranjska Gora ski slopes above Podkoren, where we ascend to the left of the upper station of the four-seater chairlift Podkoren. Above the mentioned four-seater chairlift station the ski slopes end, and the path then ascends for some time beside the former ski slope which led from Vitranc (the ski slope was never groomed, as the slope was too steep for the snow groomer. Because many accidents occurred, also with fatal outcomes, they closed the ski slope, the cableway continued to operate, but it was forbidden to go on it with skis), then it passes into the forest, through which it starts to ascend steeply. On some slippery spots further a rope helps us, and higher we cross once again the already quite overgrown former ski slope, then we ascend through a strip of forest onto the ridge of Vitranc, where we continue left to the Mojčin dom a few dozen steps away.
From Mojčin dom, near which there is also the decaying Dom na Vitrancu, we return a few dozen steps back to the junction, from where we continue in the direction of Ciprnik, where the path also leads past the decaying one-seater chairlift Vitranc II.
(The one-seater chairlift Vitranc II is the oldest one-seater chairlift in Slovenia and one of the oldest in the world as it bears the year 1958. A few years ago it was still possible to safely reach Vitranc with it, today it no longer has an operating permit).
The path continues along the ridge of Vitranc with some shorter ascents and descents, then we arrive at the place where the path from Planica joins from the right.
We continue straight on the gradually steeper path, which higher leads us from the forest into a belt of dwarf pines. The steep path, beside which there are some fixed protections further on, which are not necessarily needed, then accompanies us all the way to the scenic Ciprnik.
From Ciprnik a beautiful view opens towards the mountains above the valleys of both Pišnicas and of course an exceptional view of the nearby Jalovec and other mountains above Tamar, and we continue towards Visoka peč, the summit which we see on our side of Tamar if we look in the direction of the Ponc ridge.
On the summit we look for a path among the dwarf pines, which with the help of numerous cairns leads us along the western side of Ciprnik first moderately, then steeply downwards. The path soon levels out, then ascends to a scenic knoll between Ciprnik and Visoka peč. From the knoll, from which we nicely see our today's goal, a descent follows again, then the path, which mostly runs through cut dwarf pines, brings us to the last saddle below the summit. Some moderate ascent follows, then the path stands vertical and ascends very steeply for a few minutes. Higher the path levels somewhat, then quickly brings us to the scenic and relatively rarely visited summit.
Kranjska Gora - Bedančev dom 50 minutes, Bedančev dom - Mojčin dom 1:20, Mojčin dom - Ciprnik 45 minutes, Ciprnik - Visoka peč 30 minutes.
During the operation of the ski slopes, access is possible along the edge of the ski slope.
The description and pictures refer to the condition in 2016 (June).
