Laubau - Sonntagshorn

Access to starting point:
We go on a highway through Austria and ahead through Germany in the direction towards München. At Siegsdorf we leave the highway and we continue south towards Ruhpolding. Approximately 3 km ahead we reach the village Laubau, where the signpost points us left on a large parking lot in front of Holznecktmuseum Ruhpolding.

Path description:
From the parking lot signposts point us towards the south. At first an asphalt road after 800 meters changes into a macadam and we go there to 3 km distant mountain pasture Schwarzachen Alm (755 meters). Macadam road continues straight, and we turn right on a footpath which is winding along the stream. After few minutes, we come to a crossing. Both paths lead to the summit Sonntagshorn. We continue on the left branch, which is at first ascending gently parallel with the riverbed of the stream Hinteren Kraxenbach. The valley through which runs the stream, soon gets all characteristics of a gorge, which is adorn by the precipitous walls, pools and waterfalls. After a good hour we cross the stream and we continue in zig-zags steeper on its right side. In front of us a breathtaking view opens up on a wall, over which the stream is falling in four waterfalls. Next follows few minutes of a steep ascent, whereupon the footpath for some time flattens. In short traverse it brings us to wonderful pools and a waterfall. Here, the footpath again crosses the stream, whereupon it turns sharply to the right and continues above the waterfall, steeper through a thinner and thinner forest to the end of very ample and steep scree. Over the scree leads the path to an indistinct notch, from which we in a traverse continue to southeastern shoulder of Sonntagshorn and there we ascend steeply to the grassy peak with a cross.
