Access to starting point:
From the highway Ljubljana - Celje, take the exit Žalec and follow the road ahead towards Žalec. In Žalec, continue right towards Šempeter, but only to the crossroad where the road towards Griže and Zabukovica branches off to the left. When we arrive in the village Migojnice, continue straight towards Zabukovica. Towards the end of the village Zabukovica, we come to a crossroad where the road branches off to the right towards the hunting cottage Gozdnik. This road then ascends along the stream Artišnica and higher brings us to two successive crossroads, where at both we continue left. We park on the parking lot by the road, only a few dozen meters above the hunting cottage Gozdnik.
Route description:
Near the parking lot, we notice numerous signposts, which point us to the right upwards. Already after a few steps of ascent, the path brings us to the crossing, where it says Gozdnik left and right. Here we continue left and after a short ascent through the forest, we step on the forest road, which we only cross. The path then ascends up gentle stairs and then brings us to a cart track, where we continue right and then immediately left on a footpath, which starts ascending steeply through a sparse forest. A pretty steep path then ascends diagonally across steep forest-covered grassy slopes. On this part of the ascent in wet there is a danger of slipping, and in snow at this spot there is also a great risk of avalanches. The steepness then decreases and the path brings us to a cart track, which we immediately leave because the marked path runs by the cart track steeply upwards. A little higher, we cross the mentioned cart track and the path on a less and less steep slope brings us to the summit.

Discussion about the trip Lovska koča pod Gozdnikom - Gozdnik (mimo Petelinovega vrha)

Yesterday from Griž-Zabukovica by car to the end of the asphalt, then a bit on foot along the road, then ascent to Gozdnik. Again very warm, at the top a strong but warm wind was blowing, it started to rain lightly, then the sun came out, real April weather. Then along the ridge further, past Kala and Mrzlice back to the car.nasmeh

Summit first visited 12.01.2015. Start below from the stream where asphalt ends, 11:05. Due to poor footwear choice and snow even after the hunting hut I continue on the forest road until it narrows, then at the first sign I head uphill through the forest. The path is already steep here. Due to snow I miss the markers, the path disappears before my eyes, so I go my own way and pant out to the top of Mali Gozdnik. No footprints of any predecessor visible on the entire path, only animals. Despite equipment and being warmed up it's cold, very cold. I'm already about to turn back to the valley due to tough conditions, but decide to grit my teeth and follow the markers to the summit. The path is really well marked, its course visible from afar. The most demanding part under the summit I overcome in a grueling battle with the merciless north wind and feet slipping in the snow. Bivouac in good condition, 12:45. I change, refuel. Definitely below 0 degrees, as due to cold it's not possible to linger longer. I sign in, leave chocolate for the hiker behind me, lock up and head to the valley, 13:05. Carefully descend, reach my car at 13:45. Good luck!

Mid summer, the path is overgrown on certain sections and especially in the upper part poorly marked. Up to picture 9 it is well trodden, then the markings disappear - the very steep cart track serves as path, when it turns left, one needs to search right in the grass and bushes for the trodden path among tall grasses. I have been here already in other conditions, so the path is known to me, but if it were the first time, I would probably have some trouble deciphering where the path actually is. Also, the path is not harmless, despite the nicely laid out zigzag in the lower part - one slips easily and the steepness is substantial.

Based on the comments, we set off for Gozdnik with great caution. The ascent took a bit longer than stated, as the path is often overgrown. Since the last part of the path was along a goat track and a slip could be bad, we decided to descend from the hill via another path. The arrow at the top pointed right down. There wasn't a single mark on the path, so we walked along trails that seemed passable. We came out into a village that was 40 minutes away from the hunting hut where we parked. In short: the path is neither easy nor marked nor does it take as much time as stated.
