Mače - Planina Kališče (by road)

Access to starting point:
A) From the Ljubljana - Jesenice highway, take the Kranj - east exit, then continue driving towards Jezersko. When you arrive in Preddvor, leave the main road and continue driving left towards the center of the mentioned settlement; from there, follow the signs for Mače. When you arrive in Mače, at the marked intersection continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible by car)) and drive up the narrow road above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.
B) From the Jesenice - Ljubljana highway, take the Kranj - west exit and at the first intersection continue left. Then drive through the underpass under the highway and arrive at a roundabout, from which continue driving towards Golnik. The route continues through the settlement Mlaka pri Kranju, but at the end of the settlement continue right towards the settlement Srakovlje. This is followed by driving through Srakovlje, Spodnja Bela, Srednja Bela to Zgornja Bela, where continue right towards Preddvor. In Preddvor, notice the signs for Mače, which direct left past the primary school onto the road that ascends to Mače. When you arrive in Mače, at the marked intersection continue right (left Bašelj, straight church of St. Miklavž (church isn't accessible by car)) and drive up the narrow road above the village, where there is a larger marked parking lot.

Path description:
From the parking lot, return to the road from which you turned onto the parking lot and continue the ascent along it towards Kališče. Initially, walk through the forest; the road a few minutes higher approaches the Suha stream, which you also cross twice a little further on. After about 20 minutes, arrive at a marked junction, where the usual path to Kališče continues left, but continue right towards Srednji vrh, Kališče over Kozjek and Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu over Kozjek. The increasingly poor road soon brings you to a cargo cableway that leads towards Dom na Kališču; at the first junction after the cargo cableway, continue on the left unmarked cart track (right Srednji vrh and Kališče over Kozjek). Continue along the cart track or wide path, following the "main" cart track at junctions. In a moderate ascent, reach the wild garlic patch and sparse forest belt in a few minutes, from where some views open up. Follow a short traverse ascent and join the usual path from Mače.
Reach the marked path on a smaller saddle north of Gora (994 m) and follow it towards Kališče. Ascend through dense spruce forest for a few minutes, then join a poorer road along which continue ascending for a few minutes. Leave the road when you notice the continuation of the mountain path on the right (the junction is well marked). The path ahead moves onto a steeper slope and ascends relatively steeply in numerous zigzags. Higher up, the forest temporarily thins and a nice view opens towards the south. In the sparse forest section, a wooden bench provides a pleasant rest; a little further, a working clock on a tree "surprises" you. Continue traversing right for a bit longer to reach the forested south ridge of Kališče. On this ridge, the path turns sharply left, then ascends in a few zigzags to Spodnje Kališče, from where a beautiful view of Storžič opens up.
