Access to starting point:
From the Split - Ploče highway at the Zagvozd exit we head towards the toll tunnel Sveti Ilija, which through the mountain ridge Biokovo brings us to the Makarska Riviera. At the roundabout, soon after the exit from the tunnel, we head towards the town of Makarska, where we park near the promenade. If we want to shorten the path a little and save on parking costs, we can leave the car in the village of Makar, where below the village cemetery there is a larger parking lot.
Path description:
From the promenade in Makarska between the municipal building and the pier for larger ships we go through a wider passage towards the church of St. Mark. Higher above the road there is a town library, where at the right corner of the stone fence the first blazes greet us and start marking our path. We follow them along the steep narrow streets of Makarska, where over a bridge we cross the Adriatic main road. We follow the marked path in the direction of the village Makar. We ascend steep asphalted hairpin turns, which bring us to the village Makar. Here there is a larger parking lot. We look for the first signpost and follow the sign for Vošac. The path leads us past a newly built water tank, where the path starts to ascend on a fairly wide stone-laid zigzag path towards our destination. After a good hour of walking the path brings us into a pine forest, where in emergencies we can get water. The pine forest is becoming thinner. We continue to a crossroads, where we can head back towards the coastal tourist village Tučepi or towards Veliko Brdo. We continue in the direction of Vošac, to which we have another good hour of walking. Higher up, at an outstanding vantage point, the path turns below the south walls of Vošac and brings us to the saddle Štrbina amid the scent of Mediterranean herbs. Here there is a nice viewpoint with an information board about the flora and fauna in these areas. We continue along a gentle path, where in a couple of minutes we reach the last crossroads. We branch off to the left upwards and soon reach an exceptionally panoramic summit, on which stands the mountain hut on Vošac.
The mountain hut is managed by SAK Extrem from Makarska and it is mostly open in the summer months, but before setting off it is better to check.
