Access to starting point:
Over the border crossing Rateče or Predel we drive to Trbiž / Tarvisio, and then we continue driving on the old road towards Videm / Udine. This road we follow to the settlement Naborjet / Malborghetto. In the mentioned settlement, we turn left onto the street Via Strachizza and cross the wide riverbed of the river Fiume Fella via a narrow bridge. At the junction from the main road, there are signs for the sports field, the restaurant, and the parking lot. We continue driving on a narrow asphalt road and at the crossroads, we keep straight or slightly to the right. The road, which slightly ascends, then leads us under the highway viaduct to the other side of the highway. Here, the road turns to the right, and we continue parallel to the highway until a left turn where a sign prohibits further driving. We park near the mentioned sign.
Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on a rough macadam road that slightly ascends and leads us parallel with the nearby stream Rio Ranco. The road then crosses the stream to the right side and continues to run alongside it. We soon cross the stream again to the left side, and the road becomes steeper. The road then moves slightly away from the stream and ascends steeply, mostly through the forest.
Higher up, arrows by the path direct us left from the road onto a shortcut. The official marked path continues straight along the road. If we choose to ascend via the shortcut, we will climb steeply through the forest, and a bit higher, near a steep gully, a cairn directs us right, where we soon rejoin the mountain road.
Further on, we walk along the road, which offers beautiful views, mainly towards the Carnic Alps. This road then leads us to Planina Strehica (Malga Strechizza), where there are also a few cottages.
We ascend past the cottages, and the path quickly leads us to a marked crossing where a path from Ovčja vas (Valbruna) joins from the left. At the crossing, we continue right on a gentle cart track to the end of the meadow, where the cart track ends. Here, the path turns left and leads us into the forest, through which we ascend more steeply, mostly in zig-zags. Higher up, the path becomes less steep and crosses a slightly steeper forested slope towards the southeast. Here, the path occasionally offers some views. Such a path then brings us to a marked crossing.
Straight ahead, slightly downhill, the path leads towards the mountain pasture Ravna, which is approximately 10 minutes of walking. At the crossing, we head right upwards towards Poldašnja špica (Jof di Miezegnot). From the crossing, the path starts ascending more steeply and leads us through a thinner larch forest. Along the path, we will notice several trenches and tunnels from the First World War. Higher up, the forest transitions into dwarf pines, and the path begins to offer beautiful views, mainly towards the east, where we can see Svete Višarje. The path then turns slightly left towards the slopes of Mala Poldašnja špica. Next follows an ascent on a steeper slope, which is slightly crumbly in some spots. This path then leads us to a small saddle, where a view opens up on the south side, with Montaž clearly visible. From the saddle, we continue right and then walk along the south side of the ridge, descending slightly. The path, which mostly runs alongside dwarf pines, then leads us to another saddle named Planja.
Here, the path begins ascending again and leads us over occasionally more crumbly terrain. On this path, we then reach the southeastern ridge of Poldašnja špica, where we will notice several remains from the First World War along the path. Here, an unmarked transverse path branches off to the left towards the bivouac Gemona. We continue right and begin ascending steeply on the southeastern slope of the mountain. On panoramic path we then soon reach the peak.
