Malovše - Kucelj (on Čaven)

Access to starting point:
A) From the highway Razdrto - Nova Gorica, we take the exit Selo, and then we continue driving in the direction of Nova Gorica, but we drive on the main road only about 20 meters, then we turn right onto a local road, on which we soon arrive at the next crossroads. Here we continue straight (left Črniče, right Gojače) and on a slightly ascending road we drive into the village Malovše. We park above the village, best near the cemetery.
B) From the highway or motorway Nova Gorica - Razdrto, we take the exit Selo, and then we continue driving towards Nova Gorica. Further, we drive through the underpass below the motorway to the nearby entrance to the motorway. From here we continue on the main road only about 20 meters, then we turn right onto a local road, on which we soon arrive at the next crossroads. Here we continue straight (left Črniče, right Gojače) and on a slightly ascending road we drive into the village Malovše. We park above the village, best near the cemetery.

Path description:
From the cemetery we go on the right road in the direction of sv. Pavel (left Črniče) and we walk there approximately 50 meters. After 50 meters the asphalt road turns slightly to the right, and right on this spot we leave it and we continue straight on a macadam road. For a very short time we walk on the macadam road, and then signs for sv. Pavel and Kucelj point us even a little more to the left on a partly rocky cart track. A gentle ascent follows through the forest and then we join the path from the village Gojače.
We continue straight and on a well-followable but unmarked cart track, which continues through an increasingly thinner forest, we ascend to the next marked junction. This time we continue on the left cart track (right sv. Pavel and Vrtovin), by which there are signs for Kucelj and sv. Pavel. Just a few dozen meters higher we join a wider cart track and we follow it to the right (left Črniče). Further, we ascend approximately 10 minutes on the mentioned cart track, and then we arrive at the next junction, where signs for Kucelj point us to the right on a somewhat narrower cart track, to which soon from the right joins the path on which we would come if a little lower we continued in the direction of sv. Pavel and Vrtovina. Ahead we for some time cross to the right, and then the path brings us to a bigger trough. From here we continue for a short time through a belt of bushes, and then the path brings us to the spot where we continue left in the direction of Kucelj (right Školj sv. Pavla).
The path ahead leads us through a belt of bushes, and then it quickly brings us into the forest, where we arrive at the next marked junction. Again we continue in the direction of Kucelj and we continue the ascent on the path which higher crosses the macadam road. The path ahead moderately ascends and soon again crosses the road. At this crossing of the road a nice view opens up towards Veliki rob, and the path immediately returns into the forest, through which it moderately ascends for a few more minutes. Higher, the path turns to the right and for a short time descends to the nearby junction, where we join the path from Vrtovina.
The path ahead starts to steeply ascend through the forest, through which we then ascend for quite some time. Higher, we cross Srednječavenska pot, above which the forest slowly starts to thin. A little higher, the path gets completely close to the old road connection between Vipava valley and the Trnovski gozd plateau.
Here, to the left branches off the path to Visoki rob and Selovec, and we continue straight on the marked hiking path, which slowly turns a little to the right. Further, the forest finally ends, and the path, from which views open up towards Veliki rob, Vipava valley and Trstelj, brings us to the last junction on our path. Again we continue right and over a panoramic grassy slope in a few minutes we ascend to the summit of Kucelj, from which a view also opens up towards Nanos and Golaki.
