MHE Zabukovec - Bašeljski vrh

Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Preddvor or to the settlement of Tupaliče (to here from the Gorenjska motorway or Kranj), then we continue driving in the direction of Jezersko. When we arrive in the municipality of Jezersko, we will soon notice signs for Gostišče Kanonir. After the inn, we go left onto the road in the direction of Dol - Podstoržič and the Kovk farm. Further on, we drive along a somewhat narrower road that leads us past houses, and after a few hundred meters of additional driving we arrive at a junction where a steep road branches off to the left, along which the marked path to Kozji vrh also continues. Here we continue straight, then at the next junction slightly left in the direction of Storžič and Kališče (slightly right Stegovnik). A little further ahead the road leads past the small hydropower plant Zabukovec, then we quickly arrive at the spot where a traffic sign indicates that further driving from 20 July to 20 October is prohibited due to forestry works. We park on a smaller marked parking lot somewhat before the road closure. More information about the road's passability is available at tel. 04/25-45-300 (ZGS KE Jezersko - Kokra).

Path description:
From the starting point, we continue on the road which leads past a ramp and continues along the Reka stream, which flows through the Podstoržič valley. The stream has further some waterfalls, rapids, pools and some side tributaries, where from our path we can see some larger waterfalls as well. Higher up, a marked path to Javorniški preval branches off to the right, we continue straight in the direction of Storžič and follow the road to the right bend, where straight ahead a cart track branches off in the direction of Bašeljski preval, Kališče and Storžič.
For a short time we continue on the wider cart track (sled tracks), then we continue slightly left on a somewhat narrower cart track, from which we soon turn right onto a marked footpath, which higher up crosses the mentioned cart track a few more times. Further on, the path leads above the left bank of a mighty torrent gully, where a pleasant bench with a viewpoint on the mentioned torrent awaits us by the path, and if we look to the other side, we can spot several waterfalls in one of the gorges, which dry up in dry weather. From here the path ascends quite steeply for a few more minutes, then gradually flattens and brings us a little higher to Praprotnikova koča, which is located at the edge of a smaller clearing.
Behind the hut we continue on the marked path, which again begins to ascend more steeply, then temporarily flattens at a boulder. Behind the boulder the path temporarily enters the torrent bed, then begins to ascend transversely to the right. A steeper ascent follows on fairly picturesque terrain, from which a nice view opens onto the surrounding mountains. When we enter the dwarf pine belt, a path branches off to the right which leads under or along the slopes of Storžič towards the already mentioned Javorniški preval, we continue straight and arrive at the junction at Bašeljski preval in a few minutes.
At the signposts at Bašeljski sedlo we turn left in the direction of Kališče (right Storžič), but we follow the path towards the mountain hut for only a few meters, as the signs for Bašeljski vrh then direct us left onto grassy - rocky slopes. Further we ascend slightly to the left, to the point where dwarf pines block the passage. If we missed the right path during the ascent, we find it somewhat more to the left. A short ascent to the forepeak follows, from which Bašeljski vrh is nicely visible. From the forepeak to the summit we have only one more minute of walking along the ridge, which in snow is dangerous for slipping.
