MHE Zabukovec - Bašeljski vrh

Access to starting point:
First, we drive to Preddvor or to the settlement of Tupaliče (to here from the Gorenjska motorway or Kranj), then we continue driving towards Jezersko. When we arrive in the municipality of Jezersko, we will soon notice signs for Gostišče Kanonir. Behind the guesthouse, we turn left onto the road towards Dol - Podstoržič and the Kovk farmstead. Further on, we drive along a somewhat narrower road which leads past more houses, then after a few 100 m of further driving we arrive at a junction where a steep road branches off to the left, along which the marked path to Kozji vrh also continues. Here we continue straight, then at the next junction slightly left towards Storžič and Kališča (slightly right Stegovnik). A little further ahead the road leads past the small hydroelectric plant Zabukovec, then we quickly arrive at the place where there is a traffic sign stating that further driving is prohibited from 20.7. to 20.10. due to forestry works. We park at a small marked parking lot somewhat before the road closure. More information on road passability is available at tel. 04/25-45-300 (ZGS KE Jezersko - Kokra).

Route description:
From the starting point we continue along the road which leads past the barrier and continues along the Reka stream, the latter flowing through the Podstoržič valley. The stream further ahead features some waterfalls, rapids, pools and a few side tributaries, from our path some larger waterfalls are also visible. Higher up a marked path branches off to the right to Javorniški preval, we however continue straight towards Storžič and follow the road to the right bend where a cart track branches straight ahead towards Bašeljski preval, Kališča and Storžič.
For a short while we continue on the wider cart track (vlaki), then slightly left onto a somewhat narrower cart track from which we soon turn right onto the marked footpath which higher up crosses the aforementioned cart track several more times. Further on the path leads above the left bank of a mighty torrent gully where a pleasant bench with a viewpoint on the said torrent awaits us along the path, and if we look to the other side we can observe several waterfalls in one of the gorges which however dry up in dry weather. From here the path ascends quite steeply for a few more minutes, then gradually levels out and brings us a little higher to Praprotnikova koča located on the edge of a small clearing.
Behind the hut we continue along the marked path which begins to ascend steeply again, then temporarily levels at a boulder. Behind the boulder the path temporarily enters the torrent bed then starts ascending transversely to the right. A steeper ascent follows through fairly scenic terrain from which a nice view opens up to the surrounding mountains. When we enter the belt of dwarf pines a path branches off to the right leading below or along the slopes of Storžič towards the aforementioned Javorniški preval, we continue straight and arrive at the junction on Bašeljski preval in a few minutes.
At the signposts on Bašeljsko sedlo we head left towards Kališča (right Storžič), but we follow the path towards the mountain hut only for a few meters as the markers for Bašeljski vrh then direct us left onto grassy-rocky slopes. Further on we ascend slightly to the left to the point where dwarf pines block the passage. If we missed the correct path during the ascent we find it somewhat further left. A short ascent to the forepeak follows from which Bašeljski vrh is nicely visible. From the forepeak to the summit there is only one minute of walking along the ridge which however is dangerous for slipping in snow.
