Mimice - Kosmatica

Access to starting point:
We drive to the village of Mimice, a village between Omiš and Makarska. We park at the church or somewhere along the Adriatic highway.

Path description:
We start at the church, best along the road a little further ahead, then upwards along the street Kala. Before the memorial mosaic at the tavern Konoba Carski dvorevi, left, then through a labyrinth of small streets upwards and left - towards the west. Higher up, we reach the upper street, the so-called old road, which until the construction of the Adriatic highway in 1964 connected the seaside villages. Along it, we go west to the transformer at the end of the village. Immediately behind it, right upwards, and after approximately 70 meters, at the sharp right turn, we see a turn-off to the left. In summer, the footpath leading further from here can be overgrown in this part. In any case, we must leave the asphalt before the first house.
Past the retaining wall with stairs on which there is a trail mark, further above the residential house. Over time, the path becomes wider and less overgrown. We walk on a path over 300 years old, which connected the village of Mimice on the coast with the village of Svinišče and other villages along the Cetina in the hinterland. The path was wide enough and simple for transporting loads with pack animals - donkeys, mules... In this part, the path leads through mostly abandoned olive groves and orchards. All the time we continue upwards to the west. The path has only a few turns, or short switchbacks. Approximately halfway, we pass an abandoned farm, a mountain pasture. To the top, the path continues over barren rocky terrain. Below the ridge of Omiška Dinara, we reach a small chapel in the wall, and further only a few more steps to the top of Kosmatica.
On the top of Kosmatica there is a memorial plaque with an inscription that reads approximately: "Imičkoj ženi i težaku, koji su poklonili živote ovum kršu na domaku mora. Uz tristu obljetnicu 1672 - 1972". It is left to your imagination what was too much or missing on the plaque for someone to damage it with two (probably) bullets.
The return takes approximately one hour. In summer, the path until about 8:00 a.m. is mostly in shade. Since the path leads most of the time towards the west, we can at least approximately imagine the position also based on the view of the quarry on Hvar or the 3 concrete blocks in the sea, along the coast in the place Medici.
