Mimice - Kosmatica

Access to starting point:
We drive to the village Mimice, village between Omiš and Makarska. We park at the church or somewhere by the Adriatic main road.

Path description:
We start at the church, best on the road a little ahead, and then upwards on the street Ulica Kala. Before the memorial mosaic at tavern Konoba Carski dvorevi left and then through a labyrinth of small streets upwards and left - towards the west. Higher, we come on the upper street, so-called old road which until the construction of Adriatic main road in the year 1964 was connecting the village by the sea. There we go to the west to the transformer at the end of the village. Immediately after it we go right upwards and after approximately 70 meters, at the sharp right turn, we see a turn-off to the left. In the summer the footpath which leads from here further, can in this part be overgrown. We definitely have to leave the asphalt before the first house.
Past the retaining wall with stairs, on which there is a trail blaze, we go further above the residential house. Eventually, the path becomes wider and less overgrown. We walk on a good 300 years old path, which was connecting the village Mimice by the coast with the village Svinišče and other villages by Cetina in the hinterland. The path was wide enough and easy to carry the freight with the livestock - donkeys, mules... In this part, the path leads through mostly abandoned olive plantations and orchards. We all the time continue upwards towards the west. The path has only few turns, or short zig-zags. At approximately halfway we go past the abandoned farm, mountain pasture. To the top, the path continues on barren rocky terrain. Below the ridge of Omiška Dinara we get to a small chapel in the wall, further we have few more strides to the top of Kosmatica.

The return lasts approximately one hour. In the summer, the path is approximately until 8:00 AM majority in the shade. Because the path leads most of the time towards the west, we can at least approximately imagine the position also regarding the view on quarry on Hvar or 3 concrete blocks in the sea, by the coast in the settlement Medici. Both pictures with those views are from the top of the hill.
